  1. Review - Opera for Windows

    9.00 Build 8501 (Jun 21, 2006)

I've used Opera since version 8 because of Firefox's slightly excessive memory use. In the time since, I've found only a handful of sites which render incorrectly. Similarly, from Firefox 0.7 to 1.1 (when I switched to Opera) only a handful of sites rendered incorrectly. Mabey I just don't visit enough of the internet =D

The one failing point of Opera IMO is that it does not support extensions. While Opera has packed a LOT of features into a small footprint (major kudos to them!), there are some things that I just miss from Firefox. Without an extension system, the only way I'll ever see these features is to write to the devs and hope they appear in a subsuqent release. It's not a major problem (the features that come stock go a ways to fufilling my needs), but it certianly would be nice if it wasn't so closed :(

  2. Review - µTorrent for Windows

    1.4.2 Build 434 Beta (Mar 7, 2006)

...What exactly does Ludvig's contract have ANYTHING to do with uTorrent? He signed up to develop an application for them. Perhaps he'll make some 3vi1 piece of anti-piracy/anti-P2P software (even if he claims otherwise), but PeerFactor has NO influence over uTorrent and its code.

"According to a statement by PeerFactor, the lead developer of µTorrent, Ludvig Strigeus, has agreed to help develop “new content distribution applications on the Web”."

"By developing the PeerFactor software, which uses the BitTorrent protocol, Strigeus will be entitled to a share of any advertising revenue generated by the final product."

"This is not of concern to Strigeus, who told Slyck News, “This doesn't affect µTorrent, it's just a side project. If people like to be paranoid, I won't stop them.”"

Mumoto -- Yeah, he's using PECompact to shrink the .exe, but when uncompressed its still only a few hundred K (200 I believe), not a few MB. Its not as tiny as BitTornado, but the extra features packed into the few extra KB are well worth it IMHO. To each his own :)

*EDIT: Dang. Why in the world can't I write something with no rating?

  3. Comment - Microsoft Turns 2-D Pictures into 3-D

    1.4.2 Build 434 Beta (Jul 31, 2006 - 9:36 PM)

It's like a panorama on steroids! Depending on just how good the algorithm used is, this could be an awesome tool. Stitching together a handful of images into a panorama is difficult (especially when there is significant change in the optical axis), so if this can do it sucessfully....
