  1. Review - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for Windows

    1.2 (Sep 16, 2007)

I have been an avid photographer and "post-processer" of images for some time. I have or have tried just about all the more well known image software out there.

I have to say Lightroom 1.2 is tops in my book. I love the way I can manage my photo's and make changes but yet not affect the original file.

I particularly love the way it hands RAW images and have added LR as the first step in my image process. More often than not it is the last step but if needed I can fire up Photoshop CS3 and finish up the last few steps.

I have not had any significant resource issues with my computer the typical file size I handle is 10 megs. Occasionally I will take on some larger files but I have no lag complaints worth mentioning.

I do recommend reading a lot of tutorials and viewing some handy podcast to get a better understanding of the program.

  2. Comment - US Internet speeds still slow compared to the rest of the world

    1.2 (Aug 17, 2008 - 5:42 AM)

The day I would trust the motive of the CWA.....
The US is indeed falling behind on the bandwidth train. Some folks are correct in mentioning the geography being one of the challenges. Having such an old cable plant is another. AT&T is spending a ton of money conditioning pairs to get VDSL2 working at >4000'. While Verizon is spending tons and tons of money on FTTx. Verizon not only had to build a new infrastructure around FTTx but hey had to train their technicians to install and test it not to mention all the new equipment cost.

The backbone definetly needs to catch up. We are lucky in that that during the tech boom tons of fiber was put in the ground. With advances in DWDM technology and 100G the backbone could be upgraded fairly easy in comparison to the last mile.

Que? Was there an error in the reporting or something that would lead you to your opinion?

DudeBoyz comparing USB2.0 or firewire drive is not apples to apples so the price comparison does not apply.

$329 is a decent price as long as it supports 1GE. If it does not support 1GE you can keep it. WD had the MyWorldBook with 1GE capabilities for about $370 at BestBuy last time I was there.

  5. Comment - Heavy AT&T DSL users could see additional fees

While I agree that the wording of of ownership of the internet I will defend the US infrastructure.
The main reason why the US bandwidth is not up to par with many other countries has to do with population density. With the exception of some of the big cities most folks are not stacked on one another making it very difficult and expensive to push data.
