  1. Review - Mozilla Firefox (v3.5) for Windows

    3.5.7 (Jan 6, 2010)

I have no idea why Firefox does this, but the problem I have with it, is when I close it down, it does not close at all. I have to shut it off via the task manager. Most generally I will have to do this 3 times out of 5 or others things like ccleaner will not clean it out, thinks it is open yet and it is. This seems like a simple thing to fix, however, I am no expert, but it is becoming now a annoyance as it has been going on for several update they have made. Anyone have any idea why?

This is the only browser that I have experienced this phenomena with.

So I can only give it a three star rating. I am not sure it even deserves that, but I do like Firefox. I must say, Flock browser is looking good these days.

  2. Review - Songbird

    1.4.1.1419 Beta 2 (Dec 18, 2009)

Disappointed indeed, will not install on Windows 7 X64, gives error msg of this OS not supported. How odd, they certainly have had enough time to know windows 7 and x64 exist. For this oversite on their part, they get only 3 stars from me.

  3. Review - Winamp 5 Full

    5.57 Build 2765 Beta (Dec 10, 2009)

To roj and aegis, while you certainly have a right to your point of view, I hardly think winamp is dead as many still use it including myself. I llike winamp and always have, but I also have several others on my computer that I like just as well. I do agree that I wish it had not been taken over by AOL but still it is hardly dead. It works well and I have been quite pleased with it for the most part.

No matter what any software maker does, someone is not going to be pleased and make a issue of it. Not all people can be pleased all the time and some on this forum cannot be pleased any time. I say, that if another can do better, then help them out, do not just use the forum to make fun of them. Use it to be constructive in your complaining and then perhaps they can fix it.

I have used Winamp for years and during that time have been mostly pleased with some disappointments inbetween, but that is life. Nothing is perfect and never will be in computer software, simple as that.

  4. Review - Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows

    3.0 RC1 (Nov 25, 2009)

Everytime this comes out with a new version either I cannot get use to it, or I do not like it. I have not decided.

I installed this and it took forever to respond, I had nothing but problems with it trying to configure it and when I uninstalled it after getting disgusted with it, it took forever to uninstall to the point I did not think it was going to for a while. I use window 7. Mozilla makes good stuff, but I hardly can say this is ready for big time yet. It needs work, so beware of it, it is a RC which is basically BETA so it is to be expected that error's etc will happen.

If your not wiling to fuss with this then do not install it, it is not ready for regular use in my estimation, it still needs work.

  5. Review - ConvertXtoDVD

    4.0.5.315a (Nov 21, 2009)

There seems to be a difference between laptop dvd players and those of pc dvd players and I have no idea why. I too had the same problems with my new laptop and it's dvd player, did not want to play certain disks I created or movies and yet would others, makes no sense. So I bought a liteon external dvd player and all my disks works just fine, even those that refuse to work in the laptop. What is the difference, I have no idea at all, it is baffling. The external dvd player writer works better than the dvd player writer that came with the laptop and no problems in writing with it either.

It seems (and this is just a theory) that the dvd player that came with the laptop will not work with anything that is copied but will play all commercial versions, why, well that is anyones guess. But the external dvd writer player that I purchased, will play anything without problems or hesitations.

I never had a problem with this software, it is excellent and I like it.

  6. Comment - Russinovich: A possible cure for exploitable heap corruption in Windows 7

    4.0.5.315a (Dec 31, 2009 - 12:48 PM)

Well said "RollDatKernelMyBrotha".. I have windows 7 x64 and I like it very much and it has 4 gig of ram, cannot be without it. People complain when somethign new does not come out every other day, I see it in the forums all the time, when is something new coming out or a upgrade etc... But when it does and it is larger then they crab about that too, and they do not like to upgrade, that might take work or money.

Nothing stays the same, if you want better, newer, upgrades etc..then you have to do your part also. Put in enough memory instead of trying to use a old machine with new technology, it is ridiculous. Do not expect new technology to run on your old worn out machines. Geeeezzzz..

  7. Comment - FCC calls Verizon's logic for increased termination fees "troubling," says inquiry will continue

    4.0.5.315a (Dec 24, 2009 - 9:56 AM)

I dislike Verizon for several different reasons. One you cannot believe anything they say, and they certainly will tell the FCC anything they think the FCC wants to hear.

Most certainly I found out that Verizon (and this is not just Verizon either) is not truthful to their customers and they take advantage of their customers more times than most realize or want to know about. My parents, both in their 80's had Verizon wireless and it took me and a act of congress to get their account canceled all because a Verizon agent told my parents (whose minds are not all there at this time) that they had to keep Verizon in case of emergency etc etc etc etc, you get the idea. So my dad kept it, but they never used it and I found this out and had a fit as I purchased them tracfone (no contracts or obligations and uses the Verizon network) but they thought they had to keep Verizon (due to what the agent said) to have TracFone work. By the way TracFone uses the Verizon network in my area and you can do on it what you can do on Verizon, no contracts or anything else.

I called one month after they renewed their contract, (now mind you, no one had any idea they renewed and I do not think they understood what they did) and I tried to cancel the new contract as they did not get a new phone from Verizon. Verizon wanted $250.00 early termination fee from these poor people that had no idea what Verizon was talking about.

Well I told the agent what I thought of Verizon and how they treated their customers and I also turned it over to a lawyer and complained to the state about it. Well when you do this, Verizon all of a sudden miraculously comes around with angel wings on and gave them back their money and canceled the contract. My parents were faithful customers of Verizon for 12 years and I feel that Verizon did a horrible disservice to them and many other elderly people.

Does Verizon care about it's customers and how they deal with them. Not one damn bit! It all comes down to money, not service and they do not care how they get it. Their customer service is horrible also and the service in my state is not good, many drop outs, lost calls etc. and you get no where with Verizon about it either. When and only when people stop supporting Verizon and stop buying their services and products will Verizon finally wake up and fly right, until then, it will be the same old horrible Verizon.

  8. Comment - Firefox 3.6 Beta 5 moves ahead, but more work to be done

    4.0.5.315a (Dec 19, 2009 - 5:41 PM)

On the page mentioned in this article, I use FireFox V3.5.6 and the page loaded properly after a long wait, the page is very very very long and it did not crash at all. It takes about 3 minutes for the entire page to load as it is so very long. It makes the browser think it is not responding but it is. So why yours crashed and mine did not, I have no idea. But for such a long page as this, it is no wonder one would think things do not work, but it did and it did not crash.

  9. Comment - Verizon: Even with higher termination fees, we still lose money

    4.0.5.315a (Dec 19, 2009 - 8:44 AM)

I think it pays to use cellphones like TracFone as I do. They use the Verizon network (in my state at least), you can use any phone you like fancy or not, no contracts or termintation fee's and the service is as good as Verizon offers as it is there network TrfacFone uses. I have had no problem using them either. I have no contract and any phone that Verizon accepts on their network can be used. Why worry about contracts and all that stuff when you do not have too? I get this all for about 10 cents a minute without all the fuss.
