  1. Review - Snarl

    2.2 Beta (Jul 15, 2009)

Version 2.2 is out of beta. I like it. Still doesn't detect full screen games and so flickers like cray when it shows up during play and slows down screen refresh, but overall pretty good. If I had an iPhone the feature where it can send notifications to the iPhone though prowl sounds cool too, but I don't.

  2. Review - A43

    2.53 (Jun 19, 2009)

home page has changed (redirected if you click the one listed) http://alterion.us/a43/ Good software, very few issues, -1 star for not being perfect, though that is just my subjective opinion.

  3. Review - Miranda IM

    0.8.0 Preview Release 8 (Jun 11, 2009)

web site shows preview release 9 is up. Always has been a good, low resource way to connect to IM. Not a lot of features, but very configurable.
I still generally prefer Trillian Astra though.

  4. Review - aria2

    0.15.0b (Jul 23, 2008)

It sounds really good, and it probably is, but the download location is for the source code and I am too lazy and busy to compile it or dig it out of the cygwin site.

  5. Review - WinVer

    0.90.21 (Jul 23, 2008)

It may be much smaller, but it takes slightly more memory to run according to process explorer. Does what it says, otherwise still pretty silly.

  6. Comment - No, Windows 7 isn't slower than Vista, even at booting up

    0.90.21 (Oct 12, 2009 - 7:39 PM)

You did not state which OS was on the first partition. The first partition would usually be faster than the second and would likely affect boot time, though I doubt by 50%.

  7. Comment - Sweeping content security enhancements tested on Firefox 3.7

    http://www.merriam-webst.../dictionary/penultimate
"A team of Mozilla engineers may have the penultimate solution to cross-site scripting attacks. Now if only everyone else in the world supported them." Um, that lead in from the side column doesn't make sense:

1 : next to the last
2 : of or relating to a penult

  8. Comment - Yahoo deserved to die

    0.90.21 (Jul 31, 2009 - 11:17 AM)

"akin to the 30-something never-been-dated woman who still lives at home with her parents: Yes."

That is a bit sexist, "person" would have expressed the point just fine. The rest of the article is well thought out in my opinion, but did you really need to go there? I say this as a late bloomer of a man, I didn't start dating until my 30's, but now I am married, a step-father, and have a baby on the way.

  9. Comment - Joel Tenenbaum admits downloading music, found guilty of copyright infringement

    0.90.21 (Jul 31, 2009 - 10:55 AM)

It is kinda like getting stopped for speeding when you are the last (or first) in a line of speeding cars. The police couldn't be bothered to catch all of them, so the one gets an example made of him (or her) as other cars slow down to gawk at them.

  10. Comment - Gun control laws get applied to pre-paid phones

    0.90.21 (Jul 19, 2009 - 3:26 PM)

The big difference between guns and cell phones is that cell phones are useless without a service that must be provided externally and those service providers can be audited. There are always ways around any system, but if made difficult enough most people wont be able to manage it (or bother).
