2.2.1 Build 65 (Jun 10, 2002)
Still a great program. By the way, due to complaints from numerous users, they REMOVED the spyware code. Some people are just way too paranoid these days.
1.3 Beta 2 (May 17, 2002)
Excellent program. Only uses around 688k RAM on my 1.2ghz machine. This is a feature that really should be incorporated into Windows. Very useful, in a variety of ways. Awesome!

Simple solution here:
1.) Register on the website.
2.) Download this program.
3.) Write down your local phone number from the freei software.
4.) Go to My Computer and create a new Dial-Up connection. For the phone number, enter the local number from Freei. For the username, use your full freei.net email address (i.e. JohnDoe@nj.freei.net), and your password in the password field.
Done! You can now connect to the internet for free, with no banner ads, and a fairly stable connection. Free email, too, though I've found it's not too reliable. The service is fair, might get disconnected every once in a while, but... you get that with most any dial-up service.
Can't beat having internet access for free! Forget $20 a month for AOL.

I did this last year, so it's become something of a tradition...

It's been promised for a long time now. We shall see. :)

I know BetaNews hasn't been updated on a regular basis for many months now, and it is refreshing to see some updates. But... this almost sounds like an infomercial for Gateway. I thought the whole point of BETAnews was to report on beta projects.
Well, at any rate... here comes MY infomercial!!! Has anyone here done any research into the DeskNote line of computers? Designed to be desktop replacements, they pack the same power as the Gateway models listed in this review, only they use regular desktop components, and cost half as much! The downside is they don't come standard with a built-in battery, but they point out that unless you're on an airplane, you really don't need one that often (besides, an external battery can be purchased seperately.) Check out www.desknote.net or desknote.biz. I'd be interested to see if anyone out there has one, or has an opinion. You can custom configure it on www.micropro.com for a real good price.
I just bought one with P4 1.8ghz 512k cache, 256mb DDR Ram, 20gb hard drive, 8x DVD-rom, 4 built-in USB ports, 1 firewire port, s-video out, built-in 56k modem and ethernet port, 15.0" TFT screen, up to 64mb shared video memory, and incluidng a one year warantee.... for only $1117! A far cry from $2599!

WOW.... CPUGuy finally snapped. Is that kind of language really necessary to get your point across? Please be more careful in the future.
