  1. Comment - Microsoft Sued Over WGA Program

    (Jun 30, 2006 - 2:12 PM)

    PC_Tool,

I normally agree with most of the comments you post here but this is complete bull.

I work into a computer store as the manager and the lead technican of this store. Most people work are only getting minimum wage and cannot afford pricy software. I am Geniune. Its absolute bull that microsoft charges these ridicous prices. Microsoft is not in this alone though Adobe on the other hand also has redicious prices. Right now, Microsoft has the monopoly when it comes to software. Its only the pc enthusiast that will install linux and normally get very fustrated and put windows back on. Linux maybe free but the problem with linux is that compiling packages and normally installing programs can be a pain. I know there are .deb packages for debian and .rpm packages for redhat, but its not simple as windows.

Lets say for argument sakes. Microsoft sells about 2000 copies of xp home a day. Lets say the price is 300 bucks. Most people cannot afford three hundred bucks. Microsoft makes $600,000 bucks off this software. You and me know that when something goes cheaper more people buy. If we went to walmart and was going to pick up the dvd player. They would sell probably 20 of the 40 dollar dvd players to 3 80 dollar dvd players.
Ok now since the software would be cheaper lets say it was a hundred bucks. Double the people would by it so that would be 4000 instead of 2000. They are still making 200,000 dollars on just 2000 copies. The cost of the making the packages is only pennies and you know a blank cd doesn't cost nothing.

Microsoft would be better off lowering its prices. I could go on for hours here on this topic but its friday lol.

    Thanks

  2. Comment - RIAA, MPAA Target Campus Networks

    (May 2, 2006 - 8:57 AM)

Have you got a clue to what you are saying??

Lets take music for example. Do you know how much work goes into writing and recording one song. To make just one song perfect it can take a very long time.

For Example... My band decides to write an original. 1. Chord Structure has to be written.
    2. lyrics has to be written
    3. Guitar riffs, keyboard solos and bass riffs have to be added along with drum patterns.
    4. you practice the song alot probably for weeks before you record it so you make sure you got it perfect.
    5. Here comes the recording. Its not all done live as many people think. It has to be done Track for Track. Meaning one track for vocals, one for harmonies, one for keyboards, one for guitars, one for bass, and probably four or five maybe six tracks for drums, then you got your vocals. So you gotta organize all that stuff. Set the levels and do a proper mix.

    6. final product is done but remember in all the work you did trying to get this done you do not get paid one penny.

    7. Then your on tour for about two months with most days no contact from any friends or family.

Being a musician is a full time job, Alot of people think just get up and play. Doesn't work like that. you ahve to practice and practice and practice until you have it perfect before you get up on stage.

We expect to be paid just like everyone else and we deserve to get paid.

Thats from a Musicians point of view.

    Lets take software....
Now we are argue all day over this one. I know that Microsoft has a tendacy to overprice their product quite a bit, but they have to make their revenue somewhere. If people would stop downloading so much they might even consider to drop their prices on their software. Software has a lot of work involved. Alot of headaches and code and then comes testing. So really if you think about it downloading this content your really screwing over the industry big time.

I think you know where im going with this. I don't believe in the RIAA invading personal privacy but they have some rights here as well.
Downloading software, music, movies is the same as a person going to a store and robbing it.

    Thanks for reading.

Leave it to canadians? you say!.
You have no nerve to say that. Canada is one of the most free companies in the world. Our crime rate isn't as bad as the US. I do respect the US, i have friends that live there.

    Don't diss canadians boy.

  4. Comment - Seagate Buys Maxtor for $1.9 Billion

    (Dec 21, 2005 - 4:01 PM)

This is so funny. I work into a computer store and between Fujitsu and Maxtor, I didn't know who was worse. Guranteed for maxtor one day after the warranty was up that freakin drive would fail. Fujitsu or as I call them FUS HITSU if you had a 20 gb one of those it would always make it way back to the manufacturer for replacement. As for seagate never had many problems with them. Seems though Western Digital has the market. Every system we sell we put a Western Digital in. One of the most reliable drives of all time was the Quantum Fireball. I had an old 30 gig that is still running yet bought it back in 2000 when they first came out.

  5. Comment - Grokster Shuts P2P Service, Owes $50m

The regular version of Limewire as Spyware. The pro version however doesn't. I use pro and find it to be great. You pay for the software.

Actually buddy you don't have the right to do that. Lets take this into consideration.
I joined a band about 3 months ago. We are working on some original music. Lets say when we release an album you say man i love that song gotta have it. So you go and buy the cd. Great. One cd cost you around what 20 bucks canadian. ok far enough. Then your friend asks you for a copy, and then that friend gives his friend a copy. Being a band of four people we make about 3 bucks off the disc, so really we made 3 bucks off 4 discs?... Now do you see the logic in this? I don't.

    Thanks
