  1. Review - WindowBlinds

    4.6 (Aug 15, 2005)

I've been using Windowblinds for a few years now, and I have to say I wouldnt be without it. I use the " Z " theme, which lets me right click on any window and it rolls up instead of minimizing to the taskbar, plus my taskbar has a totally new cool look as well. I cant say enough about this program, and I highly recommend if you havent tried it, give it a try and see for yourself. The memory useage is very low, and for the past year using Windows XP my computer has not crashed, nor locked up one time. You can customize Windowblinds to your liking as well.

This is definately a winner, and has been for a long time. It just keeps getting better. There are tons of skins you can download to suit your personal taste as well. I rate it a 5 because it works, and it works well. I couldnt see going back to the drab looking XP standard themes after having used this. Its an awesome program.

  2. Review - AbiWord for Windows

    2.3.1 Beta (Jun 12, 2005)

This program rocks ! I have used it for almost a year and I couldnt be happier with the results.
You will notice that it doesnt cost you anything either. This is by far the best FREE word processor available. It even comes in flavors for Mac, and Linux OS's also. I highly recommend it , and I also thank the programmers for a great piece of software. Great job guys....! I give it a 5

  3. Review - Tweak-XP Pro

    4.0.5 (Mar 14, 2005)

I have used Tweak XP Pro and I think its a very good program. Its straight forward, and has dozens of tweaks you can tune your system with. It will also block ads and popups if you wish. I know there are dozens of Tweakers out there but this one does the job well. As far as X-Setup Pro is concerned, its not free, and its no where near the quality of Tweak XP Pro. I tried it and it reminds me of an old outdated Windows 95 tuner upper with its archaic old style interface. I suppose for $8 you can perform a few little performance tweaks but it doesnt come close to Tweak XP Pro in my opinion. And of course everyone has an opinion, and we dont all see eye to eye on all of this computer stuff. I've only been building computers since 1985 so I do know a little about how they should run. Give this program a try, you get 30 uses for free so why not tune your system up? If you like the performance, then buy it you cant go wrong.

  4. Review - Super Ad Blocker

    1.0.1662 (Jan 27, 2005)

I ran this ad blocker, and took the popup blocking test posted by Quixley, and for me it failed 9 times out of 27 popups in the test. I use Opera, and I also use Internet Explorer. I also have Ads Gone, which I disabled during the popup testing and ran it seperately. Ads Gone only failed on 5 popups, so I DONT recommend this one as it failed a lot more than Ads Gone did.
BTW, thanks Quixley for the popup testing page, I'm going to try a few other so called " super popup blockers" using that page.

I rate this a 2 because of the high failure instances.

  5. Review - XDCC-Fetch for Windows

    1.337 Beta (Jan 23, 2005)

Why would I want this program when you first have to go download a program called " Ruby ", which is 12 megs in size, install it, then it says I have to unpack these Xdcc files , then I got to double click on the XdccFetch.rbw file, then enter a server name from IRC, then enter a channel where the bots are serving files, etc etc... I tried it, and its a whole lot of work. In my opinion all I need to do is run mIrc, log into my favorite channel or channels, and when I see a file I want from a bot I simply type in the command to get that file. This program is more for someone who likes to do a lot of work or uses Linux. Anyhow its definately not for me. If you download this you will need to download that RUBY installer, then follow all the instructions on the RUBY page or you wont know how this even works.
Personally, I will stick with mIrc, its proven a winner for years and it isnt a 12 meg program.
Maybe I'm missing something or dont fully understand this one, I thought you just installed it, run it, and it would bring in a list of available files from the bots in IRC channels.
Its not for everyone thats for sure.. Rate it a 1 on my scale.
