  1. Comment - Microsoft Mouse is 'Not for Noobs'

    (Aug 24, 2006 - 3:24 PM)

I used to use an MS Intellimouse 3.0. Used it for years with no problems and eventually had to replace it because the feet got worn out. I replaced it with an intellimouse 3.0.

I loved that mouse but always wanted a wireless so my current mouse is now a Logitech MX1000. It took some getting used to because of its unusual shape but now I love the thing. It has a TON of buttons that are 100% remappable in its setup program and thats always nice. Combine that with a Belkin Nostromo N52 Speedpad and you've got some serious gaming power :)

Everytime I get a new mouse it comes with more buttons and I keep thinking to myself "I'll never use those damn things" but then you end up finding nice uses for them and you end up not being able to live without it. That MX1000 has a 4 way tilting button surrounding the scroll wheel and so I've remapped all of those to functions within my games, I have the forward/back buttons that I remap to ALT+ and ALT+ so that they still do "forward" and "back" functions in IE but then most games will recognise them as those combos so you can remap functions to it. So thats 6 buttons not including the standard right/left/middle that you get with a normal mouse with a scroll wheel.

  2. Comment - AMD, ATI Merge in $5.4 Billion Deal

    (Jul 24, 2006 - 3:53 PM)

I'm going to have to chime in here on the same comments about them being able to make systems "more powerful" with a combined CPU/GPU.

They have got to be insane on making a comment like that. The CPU has to use system memory for its processing so where do they thing the GPU's memory is going to come from? Do they expect people to run 2-4GBs in there systems to be able to handle the memory requirements?

Also, as PC_Tool has stated, what about the dispersion of heat? I know that my ATI 9800XT was a damn space heater compared to my CPU and I had to make sure my rig was well ventilated to get rid of that generated heat. How in the hell would they even come close to being able to keep a "tri-core" chip cool (assuming they tried to put a GPU onto a dual core system). The thermals would be insane.

As PC_Tool stated, I feel sorry for the poor kids in China :)

  3. Comment - eBay Says 'No' to Google Checkout

    (Jul 6, 2006 - 3:39 PM)

I don't think eBay has a valid argument on this. You don't have to use PayPal at all on your eBay auctions. You can use an escrow service, you can accept checks or MO's, you can even use other master card and visa systems like bid safe, googles system is no different, you can do just about anything you want to on eBay. Hell, I "sold" an item on eBay once because the guy offered me a trade of another item that I wanted so we cross shipped the items and no money was involved save the fee's I had to pay on the item that was "bought" for $90.

Is ebay now going to say "No PayPal, no service period?" or ask for reciepts of payment on what ever form of currency that was exchanged?. Thats just plain stupid.

  4. Comment - Verizon Launches Child Locator Service

    (Jun 13, 2006 - 4:41 PM)

Such a heated discussion for something that someone can "opt" into.

Sure, I pretty much agree with rijp's opinion but just not as harshly.

If you as a parent or legal guardian don't have enough control and trust built with your child to have to feel like you need to strap a GPS device to them to know where they are, then you are not doing your job as a parent imo. I trust my children to make the right choices and because I make sure to put the fear of god within them that if they screw up its there hides, they tend to think twice before doing something stupid.

Once that mind set is instilled within them, they start to build that whole concept of "common sence" which seems to be massivly lacking in todays society. It seems like more and more parents are looking for scape goats within todays society to have others raise there damn children so they don't have to do it themselfs. If its not corporate america that is feeding on there insecurities, its the damn government.

It truely is pathetic. If you don't have time to raise your own damn children, if you don't have the time to spend with them, if you don't take the mesures to make sure to meet there friends and possibly even there friends parents so you can feel safe when they are there, then please, don't have children.

I take the time to get to know my childs friends and there famelies so that they know that if they screw up with there friends, that it WILL get back to me and they will be punished. Sure, I don't know them all and I don't tend to pretend to know them all but if she is at least with one of them (which she always is) then thats just one more person that when they crack and screw up, I can get that information from them as well.

I don't make them check in all the time but they damn well have a set time to be home and they better be home or they are in trouble. It's sad when I see some households that the children control them and those are the troubled kids that turn into troubled teens and become issues when they are adults.

Learn to raise your child right and you won't feel the need to strap a GPS device to them so that someone else can watch your children for you and let you know when they have left your "safety zone".

  5. Comment - Intel Chairman Derides $100 Laptop

    (Dec 12, 2005 - 1:51 PM)

The problem here isn't the free PC's that are using AMD hardware. Barrett is seeing thru the BS deal that is being created by the joke that is the UN to make themselfs richer and look good.

What good does a laptop do them if there is no infrastructure in place? Have no power? You have a hand crank! Great, you can now power that laptop up to do what? Play solitare? Read the Apachy FAQ for the 50th time?

How are you going to provide content for those systems? Do you think Wi-Max or even a wired enviroment exists in Abu Gabi? How about even Beuos Aries? If there is no content on it, then its 100% useless. Who is going to support the repairs on such devices? Most of these places they are "selling" the cheap laptops too don't even have sewage systems let alone power or inet connections.

Who do you think is going to own the distrabution of these systems? The same people that own all of the food that the US sends to these places, the local Gurilla armys that keep these people in a poor situation to keep them rich with cheap labor.

Sure, this sounds like a wonderful "lets feed the whole world" situation but its not going to pan out that way and you know it.
