Well, if you indeed do use all those OSes, why do you NOT think a compatibility mode is needed?

Have you not ever fully configured BSD? Notice in the kernel these little gems?

    options COMPAT_FREEBSD4 # Compatible with FreeBSD4
    options COMPAT_FREEBSD5 # Compatible with FreeBSD5
    options COMPAT_FREEBSD6 # Compatible with FreeBSD6

    Or, in /usr/ports/misc

    compat3x, compat4x, compat5x, compat6x?

Yes, all OS upgrades have some form of compatibility modes. Just some, you don't notice the same way.

  3. Comment - Verizon soon to face the biggest class action lawsuit yet

The headline on this article should really say "Verizon Wireless soon to face..." considering they're two different companies...

I only say this because when I first read the headline, I was wondering if this was about their DSL/FIOS/Landline/VOIP service...

  4. Comment - Microsoft and the EU's Experiment in Socialism

I can agree there. Back around 1996-97 I installed Slackware... And only had issues with it on my system. Then later on, I tried installing Mandrake Linux (The most 'user friendly' linux install at the time) and it wouldn't even work. In fact, the thing corrupted itself on install.

Now, if these were my 'choices'... I don't think very highly of them. Not only were the interfaces crap, they were dep hell and XWindows/etc crashed like mad.

No thanks, I'll stick with my Windows box... And of course use my FreeBSD boxes for their best use... A server.

Well, what I'd like to know is what does this do to Apple? Will this force them to ensure their OS isn't locked to a specific hardware set? Also, Apple computers will now be 'blank' until you install your OSX/Windows on it...

    That'll be fun for users.

Well, with this act, there will be 'converter' boxes to take the digital signal and convert it for the TV itself. Also, 'old style' antennas work for digital signals too.
