  1. Review - Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)

Network Installation Package (Aug 10, 2004)

this service pack broke my connection to a non-ms NAS device. It worked fine before, but now has some security subsystem error I have never before seen. The NAS runs Samba I think, and now has trouble connecting.

  2. Review - FileZilla v3 for Windows

    2.2.5a (Apr 5, 2004)

I have been using this software for over a month. I have not had an issue yet. Full featured, stable, easy to use and FREE. Good work on this one, keep it up.

  3. Review - Proxomitron

    4.5 (Jun 4, 2003)

Has anyone looked at their website?
Just some chinese (or some eastern language) characters, no links, no info....nothing.

I am loathe to install anything on my pc unless I know where it comes from....too many trojans out there.

  4. Review - Y'z Dock

    0.5.2 Beta (Jan 12, 2003)

I had some fun playing with this thing, but it did have some memory use and stability issues over the long term. I found some nice icons on the objectdoc/yzdoc sites in png format.
As to the exchange below...Amazing how critical of others work some can be, yet they don't possess the skill to program their way between the chair and the keyboard without screwing something up. You can pick out the losers right away when they find a public place to post their immature flames...

  5. Comment - Sweden formally charges Pirate Bay owners

    0.5.2 Beta (Jan 31, 2008 - 2:06 PM)

    Sweet!
You posted the entire thread in one post, predicting the responses...

    Easier that way, eh?

  6. Comment - Sweden to indict Pirate Bay owners by end of month

Wow, who would have thought it? I drive a Saab. If I can only find where to insert the USB cable so I can start downloading the goodies.

    edit:
Found it (well on a 9000)

  7. Comment - Sweden to indict Pirate Bay owners by end of month

    0.5.2 Beta (Jan 29, 2008 - 3:35 PM)

Careful there...intent is actually quite important, but not as easy to prove.

Intent is the difference between manslaughter and murder, the difference between an accident and aggravated vehicular homicide. Most criminal law requires that intent be shown in order to obtain a criminal verdict. Civil law can be different, but there are similar precedents.

In this case I agree that intent is problematic, but it is by far better to address that before using ratios of user behavior.

This is a tough issue, because the actual infringers are not in the case at all.

Likely you are right, but when I think about it that way, I am bothered by the end results of that line of thinking.

In effect, we would be seeing the government making judgements against what was up till now legal behavior based upon some subjective value placed upon the percentage of usage that is illegal by 3rd parties (users).

If they are intentionally enabling piracy, the percentage should not be all that important and should not be a defense or an indictment no matter how small or large. If they are not, then the purpose to which the users put it is irrelevant. That begs the question; are they intentionally aiding in piracy? I would say yes because they do not make even a token effort to police themselves, but the current framework of law does not allow a clear way to prosecute such actions in this context without endangering key liberties. Perhaps a legal scholar could see a way...I do not. If they did police themselves, how much would be enough?

Who gets to decide what percentage of illicit usage constitutes infrigning behavior on the part of the ISP? If the government does then they should make law that clearly states what the standard is. It would then be up to the ISPs to make sure they stay within the law by whatever means at their disposal.

In this way we avoid having the government make an arbitrary legal judgement based upon a subjective moral standard. This is to be avoided because once the government sets legal precedent by doing this, more will follow; such is the nature of government.

    I don't get it...

Help me out here. Saab makes cars, trucks, and aircraft, not pens (that I know of) and certainly not bittorrent trackers.
