  1. Review - eBoostr

    3.0 Build 457 Beta (Oct 31, 2008)

Anyone expecting this program to give them an unrealistic boost in system performance is nuts. It's just not designed to do it. It's designed to give you a way to utilize more of your system resources towards speedier programs, and less equipment wear, and I think it does a good job.

I've been using this on my Aspire One. It helps performance by a small amount, maybe 10% (need a faster SD card), but it also does keep the machine a little cooler and the battery life a little higher. Nothing major, but with a machine that has two SD card slots, using one for this makes a lot of sense.

I am anxious to deck out my home desktop with 8GB of RAM and dedicate some to this program as well. Most of the time, I won't use all the RAM, so having it available to play around with for something like this might work pretty well.

  2. Review - CDRWIN

I can dispute what the above person said. While it's not freeware ($20 Shareware), online registration is available. Apparently this previous reviewer didn't do his homework.

  3. Comment - A look at Eeebuntu Base 3.0

Agreeing with the previous statement about battery life. Using the numbers above, you could casually browse for 66 * 50 minutes ... 3300 minutes?! You'd be hard pressed to make be believe this laptop would work for 2.3 days straight. That said, it might really help the battery, yes, but I can't believe that this number is accurate.

I'd love to see someone with a fresh Asus EEE laptop try this out and see what battery life they get.

  4. Comment - New iPhone app makes it a wireless storage device

    3.8A (Aug 12, 2008 - 5:29 PM)

This app is getting all the love ... and it should, it's very well done, but there are other good tools to use for this purpose too.

MobileFinder is one that I have taken to. It is not quite as full featured, but the simplicity of it does come at a lower price: $1.99

Worth checking out if this seems like overkill.

  5. Comment - Power companies, GM, team in electric car research

How is noting how many times a demo was downloaded any indication of how many sales a user-driven game will get?

By the own admissions of Microsoft, the largest grossing 360 Arcade game for a first 3 day period is $250,000 (Penny Arcade game) ... considering how much of that a developer will get, even with the percentage being good, this is being overhyped as to what someone could make on the service.

  6. Comment - Unusually apathetic response from Google to 'sharing' complaints

    3.8A (Dec 27, 2007 - 11:36 AM)

I see Google's point completely, although they could stand to address the concerns and tweak the feature. It points out something that most people SHOULD know, and if they didn't before, they should now ... if you assume you have privacy in something you mark to "share", you are hopelessly naive!

This is completely different from the Beacon thing in the sense that you consciously have to mark something to share. Beacon (while I do not mind it) is worrisome in the sense that it posts information that you did not mark or intend to have on your site, like a video game purchase.

Everyone is quick to blame the provider for their own misassumptions in privacy, but in this case, while I think Google CAN do more, I do not think this is on them. It's a wake up call. If you want something to be private, use common sense before marking it in something that is a public feed!

  7. Comment - Sony: No Price Cuts for PS3 Planned

    3.8A (Jul 6, 2007 - 11:45 PM)

Obviously this denial didn't take into account the leaked ads and retailer info that's out there that is saying that the $100 price drop is happening on the 12th of June (and that a couple of Target stores are already honoring the price drop).

They can deny this all they want to cover themselves and their decision, but they also have to know that bringing themselves in line with at least the 360 Elite system is going to look very good for them, even if it means more of a hit up front.
