  1. Review - AnyDVD HD

    6.4.4.0 (Jun 16, 2008)

    CharlieGimbert:

There is a reason why you were banned and all of the posts from your multiple fake accounts were deleted. If you don't behave, you will get banned again. Simple. You don't use AnyDVD, you're just a troll. Stop posting fake reviews and stop harassing other people.

  2. Review - SUMo

    1.7.0.42 Beta (Mar 28, 2008)

I had originally knocked this software because it has issues with file versions and the database of updated software was lacking. I have since re-visited it and I am now using it in place of UpdateStar. I am really impressed with the improvements of SUMo. Good work, guys.

  3. Review - Beyond TV

    4.71 (Dec 28, 2007)

I've been using BeyondTV for several years, and I've been very pleased with it. It's a very efficient PVR app, and works quite well under Vista Business. It's a great alternative for those people that don't want to pay the extra money for a Windows media center edition.

  4. Review - QuickTime Alternative (QT7)

    2.2.0 (Dec 14, 2007)

Quicktime Alternative Lite was discontinued and replaced/merged with QT Lite. From the codec guide website:

"QT Lite contains the same components as QuickTime Alternative. The only difference between the two packs is that QT Lite does not contain Media Player Classic."

  5. Review - Halite

    0.2.9 Revision 344 (Dec 8, 2007)

I'm very impressed with Halite. It doesn't have all of the features I would like yet, but the author does take suggestions and implements them properly. It may take up more memory, and is physically a larger binary, but there has been an unquestionable increase in speed. This could very well be due to my connections not being blocked because I was using uTorrent.

Automated loading of ipfilter.dat, automatic reloading and restarting existing torrents after shutdown and restart of Halite, and the ability to close to the system tray would be nice. I've already suggested these features.

  6. Comment - Spybot Search & Destroy competitors are trying to force its removal

    0.2.9 Revision 344 (Apr 7, 2009 - 4:37 PM)

I'll stick with Avira Antivir free personal edition and Spybot S&D. I gave up on the big commercial AV apps when they started doing more than just antivirus - I don't need a firewall when my OS has one built-in. And I especially don't trust any AV app that requires me to delete over 100 registry entries manually in order to uninstall it.

  7. Comment - Adobe claims 100 million AIR installs...Where's Silverlight?

    0.2.9 Revision 344 (Feb 1, 2009 - 2:38 PM)

    @EdSF:

Whether I know anything about SilverLight or AIR isn't the point I was making. @mossyblog is a Microsoft employee whose job it is to scour the internet for Adobe Flash/AIR postings and respond with typical MS FUD in order to promote SilverLight. You will not see any unbiased information coming from him. I would only trust a third-party review that had no vested interest in either platform. Reading the comments, it's pretty easy to tell where people's sympathies lie.

  8. Comment - Adobe claims 100 million AIR installs...Where's Silverlight?

    0.2.9 Revision 344 (Jan 29, 2009 - 8:36 PM)

I'd have to say that's a lie. Every new install of Windows I've ever seen requires you to install flash in order to view any websites using flash, because it doesn't come as standard. However, some OEM manufacturers like Sony and Dell might include it was part of all of their excess crap they include, but a clean install of Windows includes no flash at all.

  9. Comment - Adobe claims 100 million AIR installs...Where's Silverlight?

    0.2.9 Revision 344 (Jan 29, 2009 - 8:33 PM)

Yeah, I'm really going to trust claims like this from a MS Silverlight evangelist. 1 out of 4 PCs connected online? On Vista systems, maybe. And only because the people using Vista forgot to block its install in Windows Update. How much of Silverlight works under Firefox? Or Safari? Or any browser that isn't an insecure, bloated POS like IE?

  10. Comment - Can Tuesday's Android launch eclipse the iPhone?

    0.2.9 Revision 344 (Sep 22, 2008 - 7:27 PM)

Yeah, the iPhone is way ahead of the competition - as long as you exclude Blackberry. Otherwise, not so much.
