  1. Review - VLC (VideoLAN) for Windows

    1.0.3 (Nov 1, 2009)

    Great

the drag n drop re-ordering of the playlist (which seemed to have been disabled in 1.0.2) now works - kinda

    However a problem still remains
select several files (in the playlist) ...

drag n drop them (again somewhere else in the playlist)

    oops !

  2. Review - Kludget Engine

    0.9.4 (Aug 31, 2009)

    it works :-)

    after installing Kludget engine
I went to Apple dashboard site and downloaded a few widgets
    they worked

    cant say more then that

  3. Review - Realtek High Definition Audio Codecs for Windows

    2.28 (Jul 11, 2009)

The main problem is not with the software but with just getting that software ... the website just goes around in circles ... does anyone have a solution ?

PLEASE BETA NEWS - HOST THIS FILE YOURSELVES
... so we dont have to navigate Realtek's website

Also after doing the install correctly and all works, sometimes the driver simply vanishes from my system and all that shows are the Microsoft HD drivers.

    1 for the website
4 for the software - needs work

  4. Review - Realtek High Definition Audio Codecs for Windows

    2.25 (Jun 3, 2009)

my ONE STAR is not for the software but for the website

the link > takes you to realtek.com.tw and then onto a list of download ...
and then one of the following
Firefox = 550 Cannot change directory
Chrome = "Realtek download ... dont support Google Chrome ... use IE 6"
IE 8 = links 1,2,3 dont work ... express also dont work but gives ftp details

eventually I downloaded using FileZilla (FTP client)

Please BetaNews check how easy it is to download on external sites and please host downloads on your own servers, the ones that work :-)

  5. Review - InfraRecorder

    0.46.2 (Apr 16, 2009)

    Wow :-)

Been looking for a free (preferably open source) alternative to Nero Burning Rom (which I've been using for some years)

InfraRecorder does the job very well. Nice GUI.

  6. Comment - New EU telecoms framework mandates user consent before getting cookies

    0.46.2 (Nov 11, 2009 - 2:04 PM)

I currently use FireFox with Ad-Block-Plus, CookieSafe and NoScript

IMHO it would be good if these functions where built into the web.

NoScript - dont run any scripts unless I say you can - on a site-by-site bases.
CookieSafe - dont create/update/read any cookies unless I say you can - on a site-by-site bases.
Ad-Block-Plus - dont display any adverts unless I say you can - on a per advertiser bases.

When I go to a website I want to know that it is safe, I want only the contents of that website (no adverts), no flashing banners, no distractions.

  7. Comment - Tab Mix Plus for Firefox 3 stacks up a new version

    0.46.2 (Oct 27, 2008 - 1:00 PM)

While TMP does a good job...

I would like to see the functions in separate addons.
I suggest the following groups ...

    Links
    - what happens when you click on a link, open new tab, open new window ...

    Tab/Tab bar appearance
    - close button, scroll arrows, multi row, highlight unread/read ...

    Tab protect/lock/reload every/duplicate

Closed tabs - a menu/button that shows closed tabs ...

Session manager - add a selective restore (list a session (by date and time) and select what tabs to restore).

There needs to be the ability to add buttons to the tab bar - FF why is this not possible in customize ?!

  8. Comment - 'Hello, I'm a PC:' Microsoft's perception problem persists

Here is some wording from an advert I designed some years ago.
By the way I'm a Windows user ;-)

"PC used to mean Personal Computer ...
and my Personal Choice ... is a Mac"

Next version of Windows to be "moist and chewy" (like cake) so says Bill's bum!
