  1. Review - WinPTE

    3.00.440 Beta (Mar 2, 2005)

I have been using another text editor for over a year and found myself doing a lot of manual work to get my text source files formatted to my liking. So, I decided to look for something to ease my work load. A global search on the net found WinPTE. And am I glad I did!

WinPTE is a programmers dream of a text editor. Program in C#, C++, VB, Perl ... no problem. WinPTE has built-in templates to handle these languages automatically. However, I programmed in a business basic known as ProvideX. I posted a question of the developer on how to get WinPTE to work with my programming language. In less than two weeks, the developer has made WinPTE compatible with ProvideX basic. What used to take me several days to do, now only takes a matter of minutes. Drag a compiled pcode file and drop it on WinPTE, and immediately external tools are called to convert the pcode file to text that is loaded and automatically formatted for me. PowerBlock mode makes available a number of power cursors to edit similar code constructs simultaneously. Outline mode lets you "roll up" code under its designated label and expose it for modification as necessary. Customizable syntax highlighting ... auto completion of looping constructs ... code templates for new program development ... dockable project and workspace panes ... "tear-off" pop-up menus ... customizable tool bars (add your own tools to the tool bar) ... function lookup ... and my favorite: the TODO pane (Just create a simple commented note tag in your program, and it shows up in the TODO pane ... click on the tag in the TODO pane and you are taken directly to that tag in the program .. list all TODO's in your complete project if you wish).

I was looking for a text editor that made my job easier .. I found it in WinPTE! If you ever try a text editor ... this is the one to try! I still have to make my own coffee ... but WinPTE does the rest!
