  1. Comment - Microsoft releases Office for Mac SP2, offers free trial of full package

    (Jul 21, 2009 - 9:48 AM)

The 30-day trial is nothing new. I've seen those since the PowerPC days. I just wish Microsoft would pay more attention to keeping interfaces somewhat consistent. Between using Office 2003 at work, 2008 at home, and having to troubleshoot 2007 at work, it can be quite aggravating recalling which function is where.

  2. Comment - Microsoft laughs off Apple legal request to kill TV ads

    (Jul 16, 2009 - 9:40 AM)

Okay, so which is it? Viewing the last week's worth of comments I've seen regular posters (some credible, some not) claiming BN to be both pro-Microsoft and anti-Microsoft.

And then there's this: "Even if untrue, it's a helluva good story..." How about doing something called "Fact-Checking"? Maybe this happened, maybe it didn't, but someone at BN has to have attended a journalism class and realize that credibility should be verified. That comment at the front of the story questions the validity of the story as a legitimate piece of journalism and degenerates it into "omg lol read this".

I miss the Betanews that wasn't Slashdot.

  3. Comment - MySpace ages away from its social networking heritage

I had a Facebook account for all of five minutes, until I realized it was the exact same meat with different gravy.

  4. Comment - What's Now: Angry day around the Net includes Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Mono

    (Jul 10, 2009 - 10:30 AM)

"Isn't this run by a bunch of folks in front of a GoogleBox?"

I can't verify for KGB, but I had a few co-workers who were fact-finders for Cha-Cha, a similar service. Essentially, all they did was wait for a question to come in, Google it, and reply with the answer (which usually came from Wikipedia).

There are -some- uses to this. Such as if you're in an aisle of massive DVDs and can't remember the name of a particular movie, but anyone with a decent data plan doesn't need it.

  5. Comment - Bing bites Google very, very slightly

    (Jul 1, 2009 - 12:52 PM)

I don't think looking at these numbers will be worthwhile until Bing has been around for approximately 6 months to a year. Honestly, these could still be curiosity searches. Not that I have anything for or against Bing, in fact the competition can only help improve search engines as a whole. I think it's too soon to say whether or not it's a success or a failure.
