  1. Review - Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows

    0.6 (May 3, 2004)

This program is nice. I can see it is improving, but still not convincing enough for me to switch.

The secure IMAP feature was okay in 0.4, and then it was broken in 0.5 and now is fixed again in 0.6
I kind like its new spam control, but it has a lot of false positive for me.

The tray icon feature is not available but I guess that's because Mozilla is native in Linux, and when developers port thunderbird to Win32, they could be careless about the tray icon. There are 3rd party plug-in to eable the tray icon feature though.

I am glad that in this build, they finall give users the options to remove the message preview pane. It is the worst feature ever introduced in Outlook Express or Outlook because of the threats from web bugs when you open up junkie mails. Outlook Express gave you the option to remove the message previow.. and Thunderbird was stubborn enough to wait until this build to enable this feature.

Well, keep improving! Maybe one day I will change my mind.

  2. Review - Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows

    0.5 (Feb 9, 2004)

I never figured out why ThunderBird doesn't allow you to disable the preview panel. People are suggesting me to pull down the preview panel to the very bottom. Well, while you can't see an email is being previewed, your system is actually previewing it anyway!

They should improve more on the management with remote images download in emails and so on.

In build 0.4, secure IMAP authentication failed miserablly. In 0.3 it was working. In 0.5, I believe it is fixed, but I need to test it some more to confirm it.

  3. Review - Microsoft Virtual PC

    5.3.582 (Jan 16, 2004)

Yes you can run it even on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise, but it will give you a warning that the operating system is not supported. Nonetheless, it works flawlessly.

You don't need Virtual Server to run on Win2k3. The main selling point of Virtual Server is to provide direct web access to your virtual machine through your web browser (IE or other Java enabled browsers).

  4. Review - QuickTime Alternative (QT7)

    1.20 (Oct 18, 2003)

Very good program, and I like it much. Apparently, however, after you installled QuickTime Alternative, and then proceed to install QuickTime 6.4, it is shown that it is registered.. Another hidden trick in QuickTime Alternative?

  5. Comment - Microsoft Agrees to Patch Media Player

    1.20 (Jan 19, 2005 - 8:56 PM)

You can already make that happen in WMP by unchecking "Acquire License Automatically for Protected Content"

Microsoft really should admit that if their software was not doing what users expect, it is indeed a flaw, not by design.

I suppose BillG will laugh if Windows OS was designed to create unexpected actions.

  6. Comment - Pepsi to Give Away 200 Million iTunes

    1.20 (Jan 19, 2005 - 8:52 PM)

Funny thing is that I drank so much Pepsi last year, and yet, not a single bottle (let me repeat.. NOT A SINGLE BOTTLE) contains a code for iTune...

Whatever.. I suppose one of the main reason that so few people downloaded the free tune was just becuase they did not market it enough to have all Pepsi bottles with codes on it. Literally, all summer, I was drinking bottles (not a single aluminum cans), and there was just no codes..

  7. Comment - AOL Fine Tunes New Media Player

Mm I can imagine a new file format called AMV or AMA coming out soon. (AOL Media Video or AOL Media Audio)

  8. Comment - Windows Update Refreshed as XP SP2 Nears

    1.20 (May 22, 2004 - 10:19 AM)

It is indeed a nice service pack, but if they don't tune up the Windows Security Center some more, it will be a giant trolling slowing boot-up machine.

  9. Comment - Apple to Slow Mac OS X Updates
