  1. Comment - Report: Verizon Passed on iPhone Deal

    (Jan 30, 2007 - 11:11 AM)

Don't forget, Verizon and Cingular are very different animals these days.

Verizon has moved beyond cellular and is into landlines w/ DSL and their fiber optic roll-out with FIOS - which also provides television services! When you think about it, the iPhone would be a direct competitor to many of their budding services and, under the terms of the Apple contract, they would not be the ones to profit if it becomes a big deal.

If Verizon had iPhone under their banner, they would be powerless to stop it (as backwards as that sounds). At least if another carrier has it, Verizon is free to fight it. Pretty good move.

  2. Comment - Microsoft Slashes Xbox 360 Sales Estimates

    (Jan 30, 2007 - 11:02 AM)

I agree that the headline is not really a negative against Microsoft, but you have to remember that Microsoft is famous for low-balling earnings and sales estimates to help drive stock and smooth over slow periods (remember their 'cookie jar' accounting practices that the SEC raised hell over?).

  3. Comment - Microsoft Slashes Xbox 360 Sales Estimates

I don't think that this is a Microsoft bash so much as it is general commentary that the industry in general appears to be slowing.

Sure, Liddell is cutting his own forecasts (which MS has done w/ other products in the past in order to beat analyst's predictions for a boost in share prices), but he is also predicting no change in market share - an indirect way of saying that all consoles will experience a similar slowdown.

There is no bashing of anyone here. Just a dutiful report!

  4. Comment - Sony Says 687,300 PS3s Sold Meets 1M Goal

No joke... you're correct, addition is all that is required - and addition is part of the broader field that is algebra!

Exactly, Canada is in NA... and the 687.3k sales did not include it. Therefore one must add 90k to 687k to figure out total NA sales. No double counting at all.
