This tool is a product of a by-gone era, when Windows 95 and DirectX 5 did not live happily together.
Now, DirectX is very stable, and is a fundamental element of Windows you would not want to live witjout.

While WinRAR remains my favourite way of Decompressing, to say it has the best compression is somewhat shortsighted.
WinZip notches ahead of WinRAR, but both are beaten by 7z, the open-source compression/extraction tool. And the added bonus of 7zip, is that it keeps the portion of file it was able to extract, if it encounters a CRC or Data Error.
