  1. Review - Rip Wiz 2003

    2.1 (Apr 22, 2007)

Does what it says it will do but refresh at end of job sometimes works, sometimes not. In order to rip a second disk I sometimes have to restart Windows - restarting program is not enough. It is fast, lightweight and does not put any junk into your system that I am aware of.

  2. Review - Call Trace

    1.0 Beta 5 (Dec 18, 2005)

Set up and runs well. No adware/spyware detected. My phone's display is breaking down so this program is useful. When a call is received, program pops up an alert and displays info but this is a problem if I am running certain programs. Forces me to reopen at least one program. Still in beta since 1999?

  3. Review - Paint.NET

    2.6 Alpha 1 (Dec 18, 2005)

Install & run okay on P3 XP Pro. Had to download .NET framework from MS and then several MS updates to the .NET framework. No spy/ad-ware detected. Difficult for me to figure out but my 3-y/o was able to create a couple nice pieces. Better than the Paint program that comes bundled with MS OS. Have used for freehand drawing but not for photo editing, (Picasa2 is a great free PE). More features than I am used to for a free drawing program but need to play, (or read), to figure out more of these features. Overall, this is a great program!

  4. Review - Cabos for Windows

    0.5.8 (Dec 12, 2005)

Set up and runs fine. Got results on even some obscure searches. No spy/ad-ware detected. I do not know how to lock out certain file types or folders. Would like to search for specific file types rather than all files with my search word. Great P2P file sharing program.

  5. Review - Periodic Table Standard

    2.01 (Dec 12, 2005)

Set up and operates fine. Good looking and well organized. Have not detected spyware or adware at install. Window seems to be locked to a size that is too big for my screen with no way to adjust it. FUTURE: Allow window to be sized to user settings or make user adjustable. Typo in Gold; cooper/copper. Could switch An with A#. Nice work Paul!

Accumulating Data Via User Search ADVUS

    Personal User Data Capture PUDC

Dang. I'm on to something but just not clever enough to make it work.

  8. Comment - Defendant in RIAA suit files amended complaint

    2.01 (Mar 15, 2008 - 4:01 PM)

The RIAA does need to account for the continuing drop in CD sales - so their efforts are necessary while their methods may may suck.
I'm all for putting more money into the hands of the actual artists, musicians and song writers but not so much for the record companies.
I account the sales drop to 3 things, only one of which is being addresses by the RIAA. Music file sharing. It happens and really can not be stopped. That fight could be compared to ending gang violence.
#2 - lack of quality music. Over the last 5 years I've purchased maybe 12 CD's and all of them were released over 10 years ago. There is a lack of good music offered by new artists that might tempt me to purchase a CD released within the last 5 years.
#3 - Higher competition for the consumers media dollar. DVD's remain strong and now have the Blu-Ray to deal with. Video game sales are stronger than ever. The DVD and video game industries market right at the very people who might otherwise buy the new CD releases. There is a lot of marketing money involved but I do not recall seeing much come from the music industry.
If the RIAA wants to compete for those entertainment dollars then they should go and compete, (advertise, promote, offer something more than a disk, maybe offer good MUSIC), rather than simply concentrate on file sharing.
Added NOTE: One of the most popular video games of 2007, and now going into 2008, is Guitar Hero III. I've looked over all the songs in that game. Very few are from last last 5, or even 10, years.

  9. Comment - MySpace Sued by Families of Assault Victims

    2.01 (Jan 20, 2007 - 12:12 AM)

I've got a know-it-all teen daughter. Our rule is simply no personal info on the net and no way she's hooking up with some stranger. These are rules she has agreed to...and broken. Not MySpace's fault any more than the personals in your local newspaper. Can't put too much blame on the parents. It is the kidnapper, assaulter AND the kid who is to blame. Must suck to go meet some stranger to flirt and then get raped.

  10. Comment - EU Looks at Violent Video Games Ban

    2.01 (Jan 17, 2007 - 4:11 PM)

Game ratings, for me, are more a guide. If I feel a game is okay, then I'll buy it for my kids. I do not want my kids to get around my filter.
