  1. Review - Trillian

    3.1 Beta Build 120 (Feb 22, 2005)

I have to agree with DarkHound, Trillian Pro use to be targeted at corporate users, now it feature set appears a less clean and more bloated.

The basic version now has more than enough features.

I am rating it a 5 because it is still operating reliably for me and I haven't had any problems.

  2. Review - Microsoft Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter

    1.1 (Jan 12, 2005)

The built in Junk email filter is just that, Junk.

Try SpamBayes which is much better open source filter, highly effective.

  3. Review - Paint.NET

    2 Alpha 4 (Dec 11, 2004)

Great Product, using version 1.1 in Terminal Services for 70 people and it works great.

  4. Review - Mozilla for Windows

    1.8 Alpha 5 (Nov 24, 2004)

"An irrelevant product now that Firefox has reached 1.0 status - it should be allowed to die now and quickly at that."

Please note that Firefox still trunks from the Mozilla base code. This means that Mozilla 1.8 will be the basis for many components of Firefox 1.1, so Mozilla is still relevent.

Mozilla 1.8 should be out in Jan 2005, then Firefox 1.1 the month after if the scedule holds.

  5. Comment - Xbox 360 USB HD DVD Drive Confirmed

    1.8 Alpha 5 (May 9, 2006 - 11:54 PM)

There is still a way for MS to do it, it would involve using an analog signal to deliver the encrypted digital frame buffer to an analog to digital converter in a special cable. This way the stream would stay encrypted, and the ADC wouldn't need to be very complex as it would already be prerendered in the correct format. The only question is how much bandwidth they can get out of the proprietary x360 connector using the existing MS webtv chip. In addition there would need to be sufficient power to drive the ADC and the resulting compliant data stream.

  6. Comment - Xbox 360 USB HD DVD Drive Confirmed

    1.8 Alpha 5 (May 8, 2006 - 5:16 PM)

Unfortunately all of the pins on universal video plug on the back of the x360 are confirmed to be analog. There is no way to provide HDMI without having an expensive external analog to digital converter.

I don't know how MS is going to deal with this problem as I thought that HD-DVD spec required HDMI for copy protection.

  7. Comment - Creative Returns to Profitability

    1.8 Alpha 5 (Jan 26, 2006 - 12:22 PM)

The sound cards were generally good, but the drivers were always problematic. In addition who needs a good sound card today, nothing is midi anymore it is all digital sound files.

  8. Comment - Three LA Men Busted for Xbox Mods

    1.8 Alpha 5 (Dec 20, 2005 - 12:37 PM)

Pretty impressive since there is no mod chip for the x360, or even a way to add a bigger hard drive to this system yet. In addition the games are now media locked, so you can't run a game from a HDD without decrypting and reencryptying it with a change to the media flag.

  9. Comment - Microsoft Outlines Xbox Live Changes

    1.8 Alpha 5 (Sep 12, 2005 - 2:17 PM)

"The PS2 is going to be able to process 2x more polygons per sec. which =Better graphics"
First, the PS2 does not have more polys per second, maybe the PS3. Secondly more polys per second does not mean better graphics, other techniques can be used to deliver better graphics using fewer polys. The x360 GPU has a theoretical 2% performance advantage over the PS3.

"Bill gates has way too much money (FIFTY BILLION DOLLARS approx.) I wonder how he has that much... Could it be from charging too much for Windows, or Xbox live hmmm?"
Bill gates has too much money and windows costs too much, therefore Microsoft charges too much for Xbox Live. Wow, that is a water tight argument.
