Was that a news article or a paid advert from dell?

  2. Comment - HDMI technology picks up a tech Emmy

    (Jan 7, 2009 - 3:16 PM)

HDMI has so far been one of the most difficult technologies that I've had to work with over the past year and a half as a custom integrator. Since there is no real "Standard", rather a "list of recommended implementations" (Take a look at the feature set of lets say HDMI 1.3a. All of the items on that long list of features may or may not actually be active in a specific device.)

In the early years, devices were fraught with handshake issues, dropouts, bugs and at times simply wouldn't work. Things are certainly better these days in those regards, but the technology is still frustrating to work with.

There's also the thought that every HDMI input and output on a device warrants a royalty payment to the HDMI group (which is even more disturbing, considering that this format forced upon us by content owners)

And don't get me started on the DRM.

An Emmy? How about a class action lawsuit.

    Oops, double post.

  4. Comment - No Cell Phone-Cancer Risk, Large Study Says

    (Dec 6, 2006 - 7:09 PM)

If you had read the article, you would have noticed that the Danish Institute of Cancer Epidemiology conducted the study.

Thats odd, isnt it! An institution who's primary function is to conduct research into cancer... is conducting research into cancer!

I like when you said: "There are now about 12 studies, 6 from the US and 6 from Europe, and this finding again puts the results to a tie--half of them claim cell phones are bad, half say they cause no risk. If they are this inconsistent, who's to say we will ever, ever know for sure?"

You're right, bourgeoisdude. Why bother with scientific inquiry at all?

We dont have a consensus in the scientific community yet, there are 12 studies, lets just stop while we're ahead! Brilliant!

Why bother looking into things like cellphone radiation that can potentially shorten peoples lives?

    Yeah. A waste of money.

  5. Comment - Senate Cracks Down on Net Gambling

    (Oct 2, 2006 - 4:49 PM)

I like how they piggybacked it on a "port security" bill.

Finally! Something is being done about the evils of... uh... online gambling?

I don't understand the motivation behind such legislation.

PS: Betanews, in articles such as these, could you provide links to the actual pieces of legislation in question?
