  1. Review - AIMP

    2.0 Beta 3 (Sep 18, 2007)

Been using for a few days on Vista with no issues at all. It's a solid little player that reminds me of what Winamp used to be. If it continues at this pace it is potentially my new default player. Screenshot does not do it justice (the newer skin is much cleaner)

  2. Review - AOL Instant Messenger for Windows

    5.2.3139 Beta (Feb 18, 2003)

the new offline sms sending option finally got me to upgrade from version 4 to 5. but i cannot set it up. i am in australia, and while the 'signup' page caters for international users, it has a number limit on it's phone number entry form, and my phone number is longer than this. hope they can fix this soon.

the program itself it up to the same standard as usual, but doesn't deserve full marks unless it adds logging (without having to use a third party addon)

  3. Review - ICQ Pro

    2003a Beta Build #3777 (Nov 28, 2002)

the changes in this version outlined on the ICQ site (http://www.icq.com/products/whatsnew.html) are not significant and are not what i'd call worth an upgrade. i did it anyway, and it seemed like more of the same. had the program open in the background for 2 hours, hadn't used it as such and all of a sudden i got an error screen. wasn't even TOUCHING the program. i'll stick to icqlite.

  4. Review - Pidgin for Windows

    0.60 Alpha (Sep 15, 2002)

Convinced with the reviewers before me I thought I'd give it a shot. On my first run it crashed on me, second time it worked but I can only seem to set up AIM or ICQ accounts. The user interface needs some work and simple keyboard shortcuts such as CTRL+S for sending messages (which i'm used to) are not implemented. Wont be downloading it again. Don't like it as a whole.

  5. Review - AIM+

    1.0 Build 41 (Dec 11, 2001)

This is the best AIM add on I have ever used. I have been using an AIM 4.4 beta since the beginning of the year because it was the only beta to ever include a logging feature. Today I upgraded to AIM 4.8 and tried this program. The logging is much better than that included in AIM 4.4 and as an added bonus there are no banners in the main window. I highly recommend this program to anybody who wants logging, even if you've kept AIM 4.4 up until now like me.

  6. Comment - Darn that pesky euro! RSS feed problem traced to currency character

    1.0 Build 41 (Jan 20, 2009 - 2:10 AM)

On the front page at least, the Featured Stories column is redundant. I'd much prefer to see a longer list of BetaNews Alpha articles. And the extended FileForum listing. I know I'm not alone!

  7. Comment - From the ME: Betanews releases Alpha

    1.0 Build 41 (Jan 14, 2009 - 10:56 AM)

While I believe a change was warranted and the new graphics are indeed an improvement, I, too, will miss having FileForum integrated into the BetaNews portal. I dont understand how the site width has increased by about 20% but you've managed to disclude what was once one of the most important parts of my BetaNews experience.

The alpha design works. Except, the featured stories should be a few large icons at the top (much like the non-alpha page) and the right column should be the expanded FileForum view that the visitors are used to.

  8. Comment - Nintendo Goes Small for Game Boy Micro

    1.0 Build 41 (May 18, 2005 - 2:06 AM)

think of it as what Game Boy Pocket was to Game Boy. Not confusing at all.
