  1. Comment - A Sidekick crisis post mortem on cloud confidence

    (Oct 22, 2009 - 7:55 PM)

"For the last ten years, the insurance industry has provided coverage to mitigate data loss, which usually addresses hosting data," Laykin said. "Data insurance for individuals may not be something widely available today, but I envision policies like that being part of the average user's portfolio twenty years down the road."

Just what we need, more insurance. How about a redesign whereby individual users of something like a Sidekick could download all of their data to a physical storage device (HDD, SSD ... personal computer, ipod, etc.)? Most Sidekicks don't contain all that much data to begin with. Why not develop a charger that contains 32GB of flash memory and automatically downloads/updates that storage when the device is plugged in to charge? Hey, I should copyright that ... :)

  2. Comment - Facebook to offer first-come-first-served vanity URLs

Or, you could be a member of all the social networking sites and provide misinformation. It seems a large leap to assume that everyone who uses facebook is 1) who they say they are and using real info, and 2) putting "everything" out there for people to read. Many of the people I know have a profile that contains only basic information, which often times is only a nickname and not their 'real' name. Similar to what others have said, it is used only for events and planning with little to no blogging or wall writing.

Actually, I think the Fair Use Party might work ... I mean, we could all call it the F. U. Party :)

  4. Comment - RealNetworks calls Hollywood studios an 'illegal cartel'

@Tool You sarcastically say to Scott (below) "Nah, we should start by blaming the guys with the money, right?" Then about face and agree with Scott that "guys with the money" are the problem having "bought off" Congress :) So, who should we blame? Congress for allowing RIAA and other IP lobbyists to maintain the status quo? Since we know the problem (copyright law), how can we change the current situation?
