  1. Review - Screenshot Captor

    2.75.01 (Oct 28, 2009)

THis is the best software of its type that I've tried. I won't pretend to have tested every single free such program, but I have tried several, plus a number of shareware efforts as well. It does all I need it for, and more. Operation is intuitive, and the interface is well-designed. The registration is not an issue. Some people seem to believe that if they are asked to register a program they will be sending details of their bank account and PIN, plus the location of their stash of porn.

  2. Review - Paint Shop Pro

    12.50 (Oct 2, 2009)

I've been a dedicated PSP user since around version 2.0 or 3.0 - at least it ran on Win 3.1 - sadly It's got more and more bloated since Corel took it over. It's still easier to use for me than PhotoShop, though, and a lot cheaper! As already mentioned, version 12.50 has been out for months, however. They do have a cheek charging for a half-point upgrade, though.

  3. Review - WinZip

    14.0 Beta Build 8629 (Sep 22, 2009)

I, too used Winzip since Windows 3.1 until they reneged on Nico Mak's promise and started to charge for upgrades. WinRAR is better all round.

  4. Review - Opera for Windows (Beta)

    10.10 Build 1778 Beta (Sep 11, 2009)

As good as ever. I don't need lots of bells and whistles, mainly speed and stability. It seems even faster in this build, but that may easily be an illusion, or I've got an unusually fast connection atm. During the entire version 10 test process I've never had Opera crash on my machine, even the early alphas. That's more than can be said for the release version of Firefox I use sometimes. All the sites I regularly visit render without problems; usually if I check the (X)HTML on the few sites I've come across that render poorly the page doesn't validate.

  5. Review - Opera for Windows (Beta)

    10.00 Build 1750 RC2 Beta (Aug 28, 2009)

    Getting closer: RC now!

It certainly seems even faster than usual. I think Unite is only in the nightly builds at present. It looks like they're not ready to release it yet. :(

  6. Comment - Gates Foundation and BBC distribute free condom ringtone

    10.00 Build 1750 RC2 Beta (Aug 15, 2008 - 3:04 PM)

    The mind boggles.

  7. Comment - Google 'feels your pain' after the latest Gmail outage

    10.00 Build 1750 RC2 Beta (Aug 12, 2008 - 4:22 PM)

Ditto. I use a number of their services including Gmail and have never encountered any problems.

  8. Comment - Microsoft posts videos of users who liked Vista after thinking it was new OS

    10.00 Build 1750 RC2 Beta (Jul 31, 2008 - 2:30 PM)

I use Vista at home and XP at work. Of the two I prefer Vista. At first, until I got Vista working they way I wanted it, instead of the way M$ wanted it, I preferred XP, but now Vista runs far better than XP ever did.

  9. Comment - Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 now scheduled for Q3

    10.00 Build 1750 RC2 Beta (May 28, 2008 - 11:37 AM)

    pnutts:

"how Microsoft is moving towards standards compliance"

*Moving*, perhaps, although I'm sure reluctantly. The noun used in the article was *lead*, not *move*.

  10. Comment - Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 now scheduled for Q3

    10.00 Build 1750 RC2 Beta (May 27, 2008 - 2:03 PM)

"... buy themselves a few months of extra time to follow Microsoft's lead towards standards compliance."

ROFLOL! When have M$ ever led towards standards compliance?
