  1. Review - AOL Instant Messenger for Windows

    0.5.21 Beta (Sep 10, 2005)

I wish people would review the software rather than the company. It's free software, so it's supported by ads; if that bugs you so much then use another chat client (Trillian?).

Anyway, about this software, AOL has finally given AIM a facelift that it's needed for the past few years. Very slick interface, the ad level is the same as before (you can choose to put the ad in the buddy list instead of the IM window which is the default - it is very annoying to have it in the IM window). I ran through all of the options - obviously it is still in development but it is a nice step forward for AIM. Everything runs smoothly, the menus all fade for a nice effect. It looks like the are working in a picture sharing service (maybe similar to Hello?).

I would recommend this version over the old versions.

  2. Review - AOL Instant Messenger for Windows

    v.3.5.1635 (Nov 19, 1999)

Great chat program, It's used all around campus. It replaces the telephone!

  3. Comment - XM Tunes to Online Radio

    v.3.5.1635 (Sep 20, 2004 - 8:45 AM)

I don't know why someone would pay $8 a month for streaming radio channels when you get something like Rhapsody for $10 a month ($2 more) with a quarter million on-demand songs + a radio function + create your own radio stations.

I have XM Radio in both of my cars, if they would offer this for free then I think they could beat out Sirius, since they already offer this. The technology to stream their radio channels is so simple, they are just trying to increase their profit (which is slim to begin with) but I don't think the tech-savvy crowd, which most XM Subscribers are, will go for it.

  4. Comment - SnapStream Goes Wireless with 'Firefly' Remote

    v.3.5.1635 (May 12, 2004 - 7:01 AM)

I beta tested this remote for SnapStream - I can avow to how cool it is. The software is very slick, and works well. Also, they are working on some updated versions with some very cool things to come.

In addition to the remote working with their software, they also have a Girder plugin, so it is compatible with any software which has a Girder profile.

    Get it!

  5. Comment - Microsoft Offers Virtual Server Preview

    v.3.5.1635 (May 14, 2003 - 11:15 AM)

I'm installing Redhat on the Windows VPS right now :)

  6. Comment - Windows Whistler Beta Slips Yet Again

    v.3.5.1635 (Oct 16, 2000 - 8:57 PM)

Although Paul Thurrott seems to know what he's talking about and is an excellent web designer, i do think that everyone worships him a little too much.

Off topic - On an old betanews post it said all beta testers of Windows Me would be invited back for Whistler. No e-mail here yet. I'm still waiting anxiously :)
