  1. Review - Mozilla Firefox for Windows (v3)

    3.0 Beta 4 (Mar 11, 2008)

I am not and never have been a Firefox fanboy. Opera was always my number one choice.

The IE 8 beta was a great improvement over IE 7 but it still won't let me set it up the way I want it without constant nagging.

But now this beta 4 of Firefox 3 is an IE killer for sure.

Screw the themes and addons, they will come along in time. This new beta performs at least on par with Opera. And I have a 10 Meg connection and can still see a real difference. Especially if I have 20+ pages that I'm browsing back and forth through. I'm going to convert I believe.

Now where do the Firefox fanboys meet?

  2. Review - Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)

    6 Update 5 (Mar 5, 2008)

If you end up at a page asking you to sign in or register, that page will not lead you to this update.

Try this url instead. It takes you directly to the updates download page.

  3. Review - Revo Uninstaller

    1.50 (Feb 29, 2008)

I'm quite impressed with this application. It finds all kinds of crap left over from regular uninstallers.

After Lotus Symphony used its uninstaller to remove itself from my testing machine this application found more than 2000 registry entries and over 7000 left over files. As Robin would say "Holy crap, Batman".

All told after uninstalling about 20 useless apps I had gathering dust on my computer this guy put 361 MB into the recycle bin that would NOT have been found by the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility in the Control Panel.

That is a good, no, make that flat out impressive result.

  4. Review - Mozilla Firefox for Windows (v3)

    3.0 Beta 3 (Feb 15, 2008)

Sabz, I hate to screw with your opinion but if you bothered to check before you speak you will find that here at betanews if you click on the download button you are redirected to the 'official sites'.

For the Firefox beta this is the official Mozilla ftp site.

  5. Review - Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)

    6.1 (Jul 27, 2007)

I use RyanVM and nLite also. And a couple of DVD/CD burners. Maybe I should go outside and burn myself at the stake a minute.

    WPI is good stuff

  6. Comment - Controversial Christian Game Under Fire

    6.1 (Dec 13, 2006 - 7:37 PM)

Whew. Glad we didn't have computers to game on when I was a kid.

We had to play our war games with our BB and pellet guns. Man a hit on bare skin stung.

Luckily none of us ever lost an eye, lol.

  7. Comment - Microsoft, Dell Team on Special Vista PC

    6.1 (Nov 23, 2006 - 12:58 AM)

"The PC has a rating of 5.2 on Vista's Windows Experience Index."

My 2 year old home built rates a 5.7 on Vista's Windows Experience Index.

This PC doesn't look bad, but it's performance seems questionable.

  8. Comment - EchoStar Responds to Fox Ruling

    6.1 (Oct 25, 2006 - 12:19 AM)

"Why would someone want to pay for something they can get for free anyway?"

If I could get it free I would. Where I live only NBC is available and clear, CBS can be seen but it looks like a broadcast from Mars. And that's all we can get here nailzs.

Actually I use bitorrent for the shows I want to watch so I do get them free. And for any FOX execs here, that means commercial free. NO possibility for you to generate revenue. Neilson could have counted those viewers for you if you had left well enough alone. ABC gets it, so does NBC, were you guys born dumb or was it an aquired skill.

  9. Comment - BellSouth Wants Retraction of NSA Story

    6.1 (May 20, 2006 - 3:54 AM)

"Rijp, if this was an isolated event rather than a series of creeping measures being rolled out to keep the American public 'safely monitored at all times', you'd have a reasonable point. But it's just this week's tightening of the screw. It's just this week's Patriot Act-driven intrusion."

I really don't need to add anything as you have said it well.

Each of the "intrusions" the Bush II administration has shoved through, masquerading as being 'for our safety', is quite small. A little offensive, but ya, it's for national security. So we shouldn't mind, OK.

But the problem is that there have been so many of these small 'intrusions over the last 5 years it looks like we are being prepared for a new America. An America run by a creeping totalitarian style regime.

Remember, they only need to infringe our rights by a little each day, or week, or month, but soon we find we have none at all. Every journey starts with just one step. Followed by the next, and the next .. . .

  10. Comment - IE7 to Use Firefox's RSS Feed Icon

    6.1 (Dec 14, 2005 - 9:23 PM)

This is right from the horses mouth ( http://blogs.msdn.com/rs.../2005/12/14/503778.aspx ).

"This seemed like a very good idea, so in November, Amar and I took a visit down to Silicon Valley to meet with John Lilly and Chris Beard from Mozilla to get their thoughts on it. We all agreed that its in the users best interest to have one common icon to represent RSS and RSS-related features in a browser.

Thanks again to the Mozilla team for making the icon available and helping us do the right thing for all browser users."

For the life of my I just don't understand why some people have to complain about everything. No matter what M$ decides to do . .. . or not do, they just have to whine.

Even though all it is is an icon, it is a small bit of co-operation, which should be encouraged.
