An excellent idea, but....
...it corrupted my iPod. I tried to add songs to the library using YamiPod instead of iTunes and it screwed the file system. I had to reformat the iPod and refill it from scratch. I used iTunes this time!
YamiPod is good for copying music from your iPod, but I prefer Sharepod - smaller and better, uses the same single exe file approach. No install needed.

The problem with a DRM-Free monthly subscription service is that a user could sign up for a month, download tracks during all the hours the month sends, then "unsubscribe". This would mean that *nobody* would buy individual tracks, or albums, meaning that record companies and artists would make just-less-than-no-money.
For those of you that like subscription services, DRM is here to stay. However, I don't believe in renting my music, so I buy tracks to own. Giving access to buy mp3s without DRM would be a big bonus IMO, but like I say: you can't "rent" an mp3.

As far as I was aware, the punishment for a crime is decided by a court, not an industry body. It's beyond me why the RIAA have got away with an arbitrary charge of $750 per track for so long.
I believe that "actual damages" should be set at $0.99 - the actual cost of each track. "Punitive Damages" should be decided by the judge as per every other type of lawsuit in the world.

Fair enough... but the rest of us are listening to much higher quality audio.

My guess is any site where the owner is happy to pay for the domain.

Yeah, they're generally still "mp3" players.
Speaking of FLAC and OGG, check out http://www.rockbox.org - they've got alternative firmware for iPods, iRivers and Archos players that enable FLAC, OGG etc, and add a load more features like games and plugins.
Absolutely screws the iPod's already-modest battery life though.
