  1. Review - Ubuntu

    9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha 6 (Sep 18, 2009)

Windows is NOT free! Every computer costs 100-200 more just for windows.
(Netbooks get a 3$, non-transferrable, more limitations... licence for WinXP.)

Ubuntu is in fact quite good. The only problem I had was with the bootloader.
Now that GRUB2 is in place, the problem is solved.
With ubuntu currently, I can do everything except running Windows programs.
Wine is very helpful but still doesn't cover everything. With a few more years, wine can be used with Linux to completely replace windows!

Developers can support Linux and Windows without much hassle.
(It's less trouble compared too supporting multiple versions of Windows.)
Here an article about someone who's a developer and did switch:

Although these good qualities about Linux, I think it will take more than five years for Linux to get mainstream. It will take more time to get a good all-purpose package format. Because this is what Linux needs. A package format to distribute binary packages on an easy way. Developers can have the freedom to make their own package that will work for all Linux distributions. This is what current Linux is missing, a good package format.

  2. Review - Microsoft Windows Cache Extension for PHP (PHP 5.3)

    1.0 Beta (Sep 5, 2009)

This is some obscure extensions for Windows-only PHP stuff.
MS is once again trying to add features to a language that it then creates a Windows-only dialect. No code changes but you still have to enable it and integrate it into your PHP-engine.

Every developer please avoid this and ask the PHP developers to take a look at it.
Maybe they can come up with Official PHP support on all platforms.

  3. Review - OpenOffice.org for Linux

    3.1.1 RC1 (Aug 8, 2009)

    Fantastic Office suit.
Runs on Mac, Linux, Windows and many other platforms.

Betanews should update it's 10 year old OpenOffice screen shot.
OpenOffice looks much better than that.

(I know Betanews is sponsored by Microsoft who makes MS Office.)

  4. Review - Microsoft Office Open XML File Format Converter for Mac

    1.1 (Jul 21, 2009)

To what format do the filters convert to?
This is kinda very important, don't you think people?

  5. Review - Wine

    1.1.21 (May 11, 2009)

Of course it doesn't run in vista,
it is windows XP's api that can run programs on Unix, Linux.
Quit wining about it and try Linux.

Finally I will be able to play old games made for windows XP,
when wine has good enough directx 9 support.

  6. Comment - If Microsoft sites lead time online, pigs can fly

    1.1.21 (Nov 10, 2009 - 12:52 PM)

    Hm, Windows Update.

  7. Comment - Danger signs: Now how secure does the cloud look?

    1.1.21 (Oct 13, 2009 - 3:55 PM)

The cloud sucks and is unreliable (by nature), everybody become master of your own data!

  8. Comment - Yet another case for backing up your data: Snow Leopard

    1.1.21 (Oct 13, 2009 - 3:49 PM)

    Lesson to be learnt:
don't use the folders controled by your OS.
Create a separate partition to put your data on or use another thing that is separated from the computer entirely e.g. External Hard Drive, thumb drives,....

Those default folders are cursed! When you delete them they keep coming back.
And sometimes if you dare to put things in, those things disappear!
Some evil corporation is using them as evil SuckFolders(TM).

  9. Comment - Firefox 3.6 public beta slated for 10/14, promises faster startups, loads

    1.1.21 (Oct 8, 2009 - 10:56 AM)

An update of the build-in libtheora, for the theora video codec, to 1.1 would be nice.
It has more features, bugfixes, performance.
(Decoding video is said to be about 1.5 to 2 times as fast as the currently used 1.0)
More svg support would be good, and MNG support.

  10. Comment - I would rather cut bait than be phished in Hotmail's waters

    1.1.21 (Oct 6, 2009 - 1:06 PM)

Different passwords AND names on all sites and forums I surf, a random set of numbers criminals could even have problems REPLICATING them by WRITING!
    (Mhoehahahaha)

And also only have a few confirmation messages with passwords, some already changed and some not. But most are deleted so the persons searching my emails won't find much.

I write them down and delete all traces that are stored on computer(s).
I do NOT KNOW MY PASSWORDS or ACCOUNT NAMES because I let firefox remember them!

    I have 50 or something I think.
