   Tried this yesterday and I have to say, what a badass messenger. With BF1942 it worked as advertised and made connecting to servers with buddies really convenient (just hit the Join button). I think pretty soon this will be one of those "must have" programs for gamers, especially in clans.

   Roj, you're having some problems understanding the point of the listed features and how they're used, but nice try anyway. You're right about resampling, but don't understand its use in the context of foobar2000. I'll make it easy for you to understand. Normally you don't want to resample, but in the case of soundcards like Soundblaster Live! or Audigy, the soundcard internally resamples ALL non 48Khz streams to 48Khz and in the case of the Live! does so poorly. SSRC uses a very high quality resampling method which can negate the need for the soundcard to use its poor internal resampling therefore you MAY get better quality. APEv2 tags, so what if your portable doesn't recognise those tags, ID3 and APE tags can coexist without a problem - therefore you'd normally have both unless you specifically wanted to kill the ID3 tag, foobar will append the APEv2 tags without disturbing ID3 tags. Replaygain isn't new or innovative, but where else have you seen ReplayGain for MP3 outside of MP3Gain which actually alters the MP3 stream? MediaCenter is the only other player that I know with such a feature. You're completely clueless about the DSP stacker (Did you ever actually try foobar, or just flaming it for out of ignorance?). DSPs DO NOT equal "Sound Enhancers" or "Bass Boosters". The standard foobar DSPs are Advanced Limiter (reduces the effects of clipping), Attenuator (basically a volume control), Mono To Stereo, Stereo to Mono, EQ, Reverse Stereo Channels, Simple Surround, Soft Clip Limiter and SSRC Resampling. No "sound enhancers" and I think the only one enabled by default is the Attenuator. Kernel streaming is often buggy and isn't recommended, but if it does work on your system it's nice since it bypasses the Windows Mixer. Whether you'll hear any improved sound is another question, but it's there if someone wants to use it. I dunno, you seem to get upset that a "minimalist" player has so much capability, that's a really bizarre mentality. I don't think Peter refered to foobar2000 as a "minimalist" player anyway so why do you think he should not develop it further or give the options for additional components? For instance the CD burning component is a COMPONENT so don't install if it's not of any use, same applies to the rest of the components. Why don't you first try the program instead of jumping to conclusions about everything.

   Yeah, nothing new or innovative except perhaps ReplayGain for MP3, APEv2 support for MP3, SSRC resampling, Noise Shaping, native DSP stacker, Kernel Streaming all in one package. There's also a CD-Writer plugin that's neat if you happen to have a recent version of Nero Burning ROM.

   I like a lot of things about Winamp, but I never liked Winamp's playlist. The way foobar handles the playlist is probably the greatest reason I switched to foobar.    Yes, "racist" videos on youtube are wrecking the social harmony of Indonesia. My relatives fled Indonesia due to the complete lack of social harmony and guess what, that was pre-youtube. It's pretty outrageous their concern over videos considering the nonsense they would prefer to ignore with Islamist attacks on non-Muslims there.

   So you spend a few extra dollars (or not in the case of Used CDs) to actually own a CD which you can do what you want with. You can use that CD to encode to AAC, OGG, MP3, MPC, FLAC, etc. as often as you want. Make CD quality (true CD quality, not some BS marketing claim of CD quality) compilations or whatever you want. Once your iPod breaks or your Mac hard drive fails have fun trying to recover "your" purchased AACs. Already reports are coming out of people not being able to recover their DRM infected AACs due to glitches in the software that's supposed to deal with the DRM. And Apple isn't letting people re-download the tracks againg without paying a second time for them.

    You're correct about Ivan who worked on Psytel and now Nero. And he's made a lot of improvements over Psytel aacenc so they're not the same. And it has little to do with whether AAC is THAT good sounding at 128kbps AAC to be worth nearly CD prices, which is my point.
    
    And I haven't seen any tests that confirm whether Apple's AAC implimentation is indeed superior to Nero's plugin that Ivan works on. I wouldn't take it for granted that just because it's from Dolby it must be superior, just as I wouldn't use any of Fraunhofer's MP3 encoders over LAME for MP3 quality.
