  1. Review - Nero

    7.2.3.2b (Jun 23, 2006)

I had problems with burning an audio CD from MP3's. If Nero converted the files, the resulting CD had skipping & popping audio. If I use a different converter such as Winamp's write to disk, the CD was fine. Other than that, Nero rocks.

  2. Review - MAD Plug-in for Winamp

    0.14.2b (Jun 29, 2003)

I don't know if I can really tell the difference between the two decoders without doing a direct side by side comparison (too lazy to install another instance of winamp), but I don't like its properties dialog for mp3 files. ALT + 3 with the Nullsoft decoder brings up the ID3 info. ALT + 3 with MAD brings up the general info on the mp3, then you have to ctrl+tab to get to the ID3 section, which isn't as good as Nullsoft's.

  3. Review - Mozilla Firefox for Windows (v2)

    0.6 Glendale (May 17, 2003)

Ogman -- I'm sorry to hear you've been having problems with FB. I've been running the nightly builds for a few months now and they've been incredible for me. Rare crashes, but nothing too annoying. I only use one extension, TBE, and the only extension problem I ever had was with TBE & javascript awhile back. If you're having problems, post to the forums at mozillazine.org. There's a good community there. If you were to check bugzilla, you'd see that there are a lot of bugs that have been fixed. I'd in no way call FB amateurish. It's a lean, very efficient version of Moz. But, atleast you'll go back to Opera, and not IE.

  4. Review - SPAM Punisher

    2.4 (Feb 9, 2003)

Good idea. Would be better if it automatically copied the headers from the mail client, and copied them into the abuse email.

  5. Review - DeadAIM

    3.1 (Jan 11, 2003)

Works great. Only one request - an option to remove the buddy list tabs from the main window. AIM+ can do it, and it makes the window a bit smaller.

"Importantly, in managing its network, Comcast does not block any content, application, or service"

Don't they block incoming on port 80?

Why are courts with such a clear bias not investigated?

Autopatcher saved me countless hours doing new PC builds. Looks like my billable hours are going up!

  9. Comment - Dell Pushes for Tech Recycling

    3.1 (Apr 12, 2003 - 4:58 PM)

But don't give Dell too much credit. For years, computer recycling meant shipping waste to foreign countries like China, where it was dismantled by individuals without proper training or equipment. They're melting components over open fires, being exposed to all sorts of horrible chemicals, to get metals which they can sell. They then dump the waste in their drinking water supplies.

Dell is going charge a fee of $15 to recycle each unit. I understand there are costs to recycle, but that $15 is going to be a block for many people.

Additionally, Dell is using prison labor to do some of this recycling domestically. The problem with this is that it doesn't allow a real e-recycling industry to develop.

  10. Comment - Microsoft: Upgrade Your Media Player

    3.1 (Jun 4, 2001 - 12:28 PM)

I think I know how you feel. I hated GNOME on Redhat, its just clunky, slow, and plain messy. But I've been running KDE2 on RH and Mandrake, and its a LOT better. Its really much more windows-like, cleaner, faster, and the keyboard mappings are already similar (i.e. ALT+F4, windows key).
