  1. Comment - Netflix opens the beta for its 'Watch Instantly' feature via Silverlight

    (Nov 3, 2008 - 3:08 PM)

All of this grandstanding over operating systems is fine and dandy, but Netflix still cannot deliver a consistent download stream that often stalls requiring 30-120 minute buffer times. Additionally, Netflix has not addressed the problem of streaming HD quality movies over ISPs such as Comcast that limit the amount of bandwidth users can use per month. According to the BitMeter software, each HD movie I've streamed over Netflix has used a little over 6Mb of bandwidth.

  2. Comment - Comcast to roll out 50 Mbps 'wideband' to Philly, Boston, NJ, NH

    (Oct 26, 2008 - 11:07 AM)

I must agree that until the FCC and FTC begin requiring these internet companies to provide a minimum as well as maximum bandwidth guarantee then these bandwidth offers are a shell game and border on fraud. The way the system currently is operated it would be like a car company selling a car guaranteed to get up to 100MPG but it actually only gets 20MPG, but the company gets away with it in court because they said that it gets up TO 100MPG not that it actually gets 100MPG -- and you can't sue them in state court because Comcast hides behind the skirts of the FCC saying that they are federally regulated and the common citizen cannot afford to sue in federal court; or, you're required to participate in binding arbitration that can only be conducted in person in NYC.

  3. Comment - Verizon Wireless to raise fees for service-related texts

    (Oct 10, 2008 - 6:19 PM)

Funny how that Europe and Asia move to completely free text messaging on all their networks, American companies are increasing fees for text messaging in the USA. Also, companies such as Verizon own all the hardware and the networks these text messages travel over, and unlike email they do not have to incur an expense of storing these messages. There is little to no expense generated for these companies by customers sending text messages. It is a scam and nothing more.

  4. Comment - T-Mobile readies 3G for Dream's arrival

    (Sep 18, 2008 - 6:15 PM)

I find it odd that T-mobile went so "Texas heavy" for early deployment of the new 3G network. Texas is probably one of the least technology advanced states in America. One would've thought San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, San Jose, and other tech centers would've been first.

  5. Comment - Comcast to deploy 250 GB/month usage caps in October

    (Aug 28, 2008 - 10:29 PM)

This new "policy" is fine and dandy except that it violates the contract that myself and other customers signed with Comcast to provide unlimited download capacity. Furthermore, Comcast is still signing-up new customers advertising unlimited downloads with no fine print attached. Legally, this policy can only apply to new customers otherwise Comcast will be in breech of contract.
