  1. Review - MozBackup (Mozilla Backup)

    1.4.5 (Aug 25, 2006)

I have used this application before in one of its earlier iterations to move bookmarks and profiles, passwords, etc., over to my laptop. Problem was, an automatic upgrade occurred on the laptop so I could not move data back. I will test this to see what the state of affairs are.

  2. Review - PDF Explorer

    1.5 Build 42 Beta (Sep 6, 2005)

This looks quite innovative and gives options to extract images from pdf files to the clipboard. Images can be cropped, selected, flipped, etc, etc. File properties can be edited. The help file is the readme.txt file.

Looks good, feels OK, not top heavy with this and that gadget or function. Multiple views.

This is the first of this kind of tool I have looked at and it seems quite OK.

  3. Review - RSS Wizard

    1.1 Beta 2 (Jul 6, 2005)

    Promise and Performance:

I looked to this to generate RSS feeds from existing HTML. RSS Wizard offers two ways to do this, automatic and manual; manual is insertion of feed tags into existing HTML pages. Perhaps this app could have provided a window to insert the necessary tags rather than having a user do it manually in another application. A wizard would have helped.

Automatic relies on selection of existing HTML tags. A very small matchbox window is used to select tags from existing html pages. Why developers expect users to work in tiny matchbox windows, I will never know. Using existing HTML tags produced a very messy xml file which did not conform to RSS 2.0 specifications.

App crashed whenever the advanced settings menu was opened.

Promises a lot, and somewhat underperforms.

  4. Review - Sauce Reader

    1.8 Beta (Sep 29, 2004)

As another reader told, it takes a long time to open and close. No Help menu ever came up for me. Attempted to change a feed to a different link on same site, would not allow. Crashed. Sent many reports to synop, never got a reply.

Requires DOT NET which turns my machine to clag. Not enought features to persevere with, except an attractive Outlook 2003 lookalike gui. I aint going to RSS Bandit, that needs dot net too, and it crashed far to frequently for my comfort.

  5. Comment - Firefox 3.0 Release Candidate 1 available on Mozilla servers

    1.8 Beta (May 16, 2008 - 10:52 PM)

    Useless.

Undid all my bookmark configurations and rolled back to a very old profile.

    How does this happen?

I am ripping this and rolling back.

    Score=0

  6. Comment - Google Launches Webmaster Site

    1.8 Beta (Aug 25, 2006 - 9:55 PM)

I used Google Sitemaps sometime last week prior to this launch of Webmaster Central. I found it useful to get pages crawled which were for some reason overlooked by Googlebot.

  7. Comment - Firefox 1.5 Beta Set for September 8

    1.8 Beta (Sep 6, 2005 - 7:07 PM)

I am thinkining of moving over to Opera for two reasons.

1.Opera has a button to open my favourites. I have to do Ctrl-I in Firefox to do this.

2.Opera has the option to open new tabs in the background. If I come to this site and want to read several articles, view more beta information, I open in a background window and come back to it when I am ready. If I use Firefox, the new tab takes the focus and I have to sit while a page loads, or manually click back to the page I was reading.

Is the Firefox 1.5 beta going to have an 'open in background' function for tabs?

  8. Comment - Netscape 6 PR 2 - Judgement Day

    1.8 Beta (Aug 9, 2000 - 1:02 AM)

Well I have paid my money and I am going to stick with lean, mean Opera for Windows!
