What does content creation software have to do with this story? The story is about Flash Player, which is what GD was commenting on. I also think that Adobe should've already had a 64-bit version (or at least a 64-bit friendly) of Flash Player out. It's becoming harder to purchase a desktop that isn't running a 64-bit system (because most computer have at least 4GB of RAM now). I know MS includes a 32-bit version of IE on their 64-bit OS', but be like being forced to run a 32-bit version of Photoshop because a major 3rd-party publisher refused to provide a 64-bit compatible plug-in (no flames please, this is just a thought-example for how Adobe would feel if another company lamed-down one of it's flagship products unnecessarily).

I thought the problem was with the software, not the hardware. Comcast has TiVo software in it, so therefore it's not infringing.

"Echostar issued a software update to the infringing DVRs which the manufacturer claimed made them legal non-infringing. TiVo disputed that claim, asking for an injunction on the DVRs. The court again ruled in TiVo's favor and ordered Echostar to disable all DVR functionality on the infringing boxes."
"EchoStar continued to develop workarounds without informing the court, and when these workarounds became known some months later, TiVo moved to hold EchoStar in contempt of court for violating the court's terms of the injunction."

I agree. Screw all these companies that put millions of dollars into development of new technologies . . . they should just eat the loss and give everything away for free.
Digital video recording devices in general don't infringe on TiVo's patents (hence the plethora of other DVRs available on the market). The problem is that Dish chose to implement a design that did infringe . . . and then, when a judge told them to stop all DVR functionality until things could be straightened out they stuck their middle finger up to the judge and totally ignored the order.

I don't see where in the statement that Best Buy will be integrating TiVo software into TVs. What it says is TiVo may include a Best Buy portal on their DVRs (which Best Buy could do anyway using HME). A bogus headline to a non-story.
