"While the media may cost 'cents on the dollar' as you put it - the content of said media in most cases cost the company who produced it MILLIONS of dollars."
Then how about they sell entertainment media the same way they do corporate media. I pay for the "License to Use" and any time i need "replacement discs" i pay a small fee (usually around 10 dollars) for them to resend new media. Another option i get from many companies is to redownload the program rather then getting replacement media.
If i have a game with a "Valid" license code, then i should be entitled to replacement media to use with the same code... Seems fair enough no?

Two things...
A> If how it was described is accurate, it is indeed entrapment. You cannot put a wad of cash on the street and wait for someone to pick it up then arrest them.
B> Sounds like they violated federal law by putting spyware on the targets machine. Any placement of a third party app without the knowledge of the computer owner, especially if it reports back information that is private and or personal in nature is in violation of federal criminal law. If i wasn't so lazy i would look it up and cite the exact code.
Sounds to me someone should grab the ball and have these SOB's charged...

You don't get it.. Of course spam is not in demand, cheap advertising is in demand by anybody looking to make a buck...
I knew a CEO i had to educate a bit as his opinion was "send the mail out, everybody gets junk mail, what is a bit more" after some logical explainations about how hated it was and some of the penalties like ISP's blocking our domain, he woke up and saw the light...
Again.. business especially need to be educated.

Forget AppleTV! If you have a little bit of tech knowhow what you really want is the Netgear EVA8000. This thing does it all and they have an open beta program for firmware which is updated very frequently adding countless features from the requests of the user community.
I paid $349 on amazon two months ago and was on a 3 week waiting list to get the box (High demand) it won a bunch of awards at CES right before i ordered (hence the out of stock situation everywhere). Best money i have spent on a piece of gear in a long time...

While this is a victory, it will do nothing to solve the problem. If his resources get shut down, someone else will do the job.
Spam prevention requires education at the corporate & individual level. Like drugs (another losing war) as long as there is a demand, there will always be a supplier.
Reach over 1 million people with your product ad for pennies! (I get this ad almost daily). There will always be someone out there who will think this is a cost effective advertising solution without considering the ramifications of their decision.
