the SMS issue not only affected Apple but also other mobile OSs and there are much worse things in the wild than a simple SMS flaw and before you ask, you're smart so you figure it out.:)

I would say to everyone that no matter what system you use that no OS or Browser is safe. Many exploits for all OS and Browsers are out there in the wild and will hit when market share hits a certain point. Cell Phones and laptops will be targeted.
I am concern about the seeming "no big deal" sometimes expressed on this site and others and by all companies involved in the computer field.
there is all ready know systematic attacks capable at getting to the Unix. Mac kernel and MS exploits are well-known. At the end of the day, people are their biggest weak point and don't expect the merry band of comic book characters at cyber command or the "Sky Captain" of DHS Janet to be able to do anything. Fighting Cyber attacks is and always will be a catch-up game but those that wish to do us harm or make money can always rely on human stupidity. The time has come for the following:
1) all computer companies must issue patches immediately or face disciplinary action.
2) The time has come for copyright, patent and the DMCA laws to be dropped and the money devoted to educating the ignorant public about common sense things they can do.
3) The time has come for DHS to get off its a** and hire some real hackers to take the attack to those that wish us harm or want our money. Make no mistake, as things stand now, the U.S. is the most vulnerable nation in the world to cyber-attacks because our infrastructure relies on it.
Do you Yawn? I'll check back in a year and see if you are still yawning. the arrogance of Computer people must end for the common good.
Finally, don't think that Apple's patch is the end of the story or MS patches are the end of the story- they are not- they are the beginning.

All right- To put an end to what looks like a charade. unless we hear otherwise from Ms. Gunn, the person stating that they are Michael Schwern is probably not. I had hoped that by encouraging this charade that this person would come more out of the wood work so to get a better lock.
One begins with a gut feeling that something isn't right but then you look for proof. Baring an acknowledgement from Ms. Gunn, we are left we a gut feeling.
One key lies here:
Ms Gunn: "... never sent a note to Mr. Schwern telling him how much I enjoyed the blog,..."
The alleged Schwern: "I got your note (thank you Google Alerts). :-) Thanks for it!"
Unless Ms. Gunn states differently, this is not Mr. Schwern of computer fame but someone messing with people. If this is the case, is he a threat? No. just an annoyance.

Both the below make a good point but there are some differences. One is the type of cancer Metastatic cancer vs.non-Metastatic cancer. What little we know is that he had a treabale non-Metastatic cancer form. The 2nd point is that, in some cases, not all of the liver has to be removed as the liver is the one oragan that can reginerate itself. This would apply in Living donor situation as opposed to dead donor situations. The fact he suffferd a rare form of pancreatic cancer but didn't require chemo indicates further that this was not Metastatic cancer pancreatic cancer but non-Metastatic pancreatic cancer. So one has to be careful in generalizing all forms of cancer or other diseases that might require a donor be found.
Just my opinion but based on knowing someone that went through this procedure.

I want to thank you for your work and look forward to possible meeting you at OSCON in Ca. this year (my last). If you see someone who is dressed like Redford in Sneakers minus the good looks and still wears glasses made in the late 60's and with a lot of gray in his hair, that would be me:) Perl and modular development is the direction things seem to be heading. Coming with me are two people you and others may be surprised to see. Keep up the innovative work.
