1.8 Build 10364 Beta (May 22, 2008)
utorrent is my torrent program of choice. everything else includes too many features that i don't use or have much use for or slow my system down because of all its uses. i among several thousands of others refused to use utorrent when it was bought out by bittorrent. i did not upgrade for the reasons given here, that they could now track users better because they now had direct access to the code.
and so i stayed with the 1.6 beta. i always read the reviews here to see what was going on with it, but i never upgraded.
some time later, my dad got into torrents, so i directed him to utorrent. as a test case, i had him get the latest version at the time, 1.7x beta. and guess what, nothing happened. no c&d letters, no messages from our isp, nothing. i didn't upgrade then. it was only after reading more reviews on the 1.8 version that i finally decided to upgrade. other than the install package (that i downloaded from utorrent's website) that i did not like, and the overall revised look that i don't like, i don't see any real difference between what i was using and what i have now. back then i found that there was nothing wrong with it and it did as advertised. i still find that still applies. it's still a 5 star program.
i do still have 1.6.1 beta, and i'm probably always going to use that until there is some technical reason why i can't because i find that sometimes it works better than the current version and i like the look of it.
9.50 Build 9770 Beta (Feb 4, 2008)
i find opera very easy to use and easily customizable when you can figure it out. it has nearly all the features that you need extensions for in firefox standard and is web standards compliant. if something is broken it's not opera's fault, its the web designer's fault for catering to one specific broken browser. i have been using opera since opera 6 and haven't looked back since. i have tried firefox and really, i'm not impressed with it. its a good alternative browser but has none of the functionality out of the box like opera has.
what upsets me more is that opera is trying to cater to the firefox user by changing names and shortcuts so they are universal.

if microsoft is a monopoly, what then exactly is apple?
you can only run the osx on hardware from one company
you can only get officially licensed itouch/phone apps from one source
you can only officially sync your ipod with one program
i think that apple is more of a monopoly in every sense of the word than microsoft is. the only reason more people haven't realized thqt yet is because apple has such a small marketshare in everything except smartphones.
9.50 Build 9770 Beta (Oct 20, 2009 - 9:52 PM)
yeah. i know how to turn off the setting. i don't even let it get the opportunity because i don't use itunes for anything, simple solution. i use winamp to do my synching. but i wasn't talking about just me. there are some people who don't know where this setting is and wouldn't know how to turn it off who also have their music sorted just how they like it. i've seen some people whom i would consider tech savvy complain about the same thing, especially if one computer is used for multiple players in the same house.
the fact still remains. these programs and programs like this should not go around rearranging your music in places you don't want it going. and someone should find a way to add media directly to ipods/iphones libraries without using itunes.
9.50 Build 9770 Beta (Oct 20, 2009 - 2:02 AM)
the only reason i bought an itouch was because there is wifi at work and i could surf the net while on break. then after getting some of the streaming audio apps, the only reason i bought an iphone a year later was so i could listen to those radio streams while driving in the car. other than the capability of both devices to connect to a wifi network and that one's apps works with the other i have no use for any apple products at all. my iriver h340 is a better player and much more friendly to advanced users and has a bigger capacity built in with the possibility to upgrade it with a home hack should i choose to. i can put music on my iriver in two steps- connect by a standard usb-b connector to my computer, click and drag from my music folder to the iriver. nothing easier. try doing that with any ipod withOUT itunes installed.
apple did a real good job of making mp3 players univerally acceptable and widely used. however they failed completely by dumbing down everything. its annoying for the advanced users to use outside programs to put music on players. itunes is one of the worst pieces of coding that infests hard drives, especially windows builds. it tries to take over your music library resorting and moving files where you don't want them and it works correctly a portion of the time. i have a sizeable collection of music. none is on either my itouch or iphone and all of it could fit on either device with space to spare. tell me what is wrong with clicking and dragging audio files to a player. and they are not opening up to other file formats either. my h340 can play ogg files natively even without being rockboxed. my itouch was developed at least 2-3 years after the 340 was constructed and barely playes ogg files jailbroken.
apple will be fine if they ever find a way to put a flash drive with a high capacity in an ipod classic, but clearly the future in apple's mind for audio players is the itouch and these additions they slapped on the latest nano are just bandages for this particular piece of technology. they probably didn't put in a camera or a built in microphone in the latest itouch incarnation so they could squeeze a few more nanos out for a few more cycles.

do all three canadian carriers mentioned require sim cards for their service or programmed phones? i think that will make some difference into how successful this transition will be from exclusivity to a wider base.

question: just how many of those apps provide no real functionality? how many different fart apps are there?
when the app store decides to go with quality instead of quantity i guess then they could call that a success.
