Roj - I really like your products, and appreciate the time you spend on them. However, please don't take criticisms to heart - you tend to bite back a little hard, and if you want to encourage people to use your software, then try be open to their suggestions - they may help improve your product. I really, really dislike real player - and appreciate the alternative. However, there is one minor problem I do have with this product... It doesn't work with streaming audio. I've tried to put this product on a few newbies' computers - but they can't download their streaming audio - so i've had to bite the bullet and re-install real-audio (albeit an old version that's not so intrusive). If the audio streaming worked better, i'd give it a 5. Oh, please, please don't tell people they must use Windows XP - for two reasons. One, because I believe people should have freedom of choice (ie. I prefer Windows 2000 myself), and two because XP might not suit people's needs. I personally don't need an animated dog in my search box - although some may say the dog's cute, it's still the brother of the paperclip ;)

We're getting to a point in software where noone cares about "bloat" anymore. Thanks to roj, some of the better developers understand the poor memory management of Windows and the flawed architecture of PCs that only serve to compound the problem. The smaller the memory footprint of a program, the better.
I usually have about 5 applications open at any one time. Thanks to this quicktime alternative, my hard drive hammers just that little bit less!! It serves all of my quicktime needs perfectly.
Now I've seen some "who cares about bloat" postings floating around. Can I strongly recommend you understand about paged architecture, virtual memory, real and protected memory and how different versions of Windows manage their memory before posting comments in favour of bloat? Let's put it this way, if you think McDonalds is quality food, then I would understand why you like bloat. Many thanks roj!

This is without a doubt, one of the best freeware programs I can think of. It's easy to use by anyone, has a small memory footprint and offers some powerful options to reducing a DVD from two layers (9gb) down to one layer (4.5gb).

For the last two years, 99% of my web browsing has been using NetCaptor. There is no doubt in my mind that it is the easiest to use and best tab implementation around.. Having said that, I have recently changed to Mozilla Firebird. I am one of those guys who loves to run many programs at the one time - and even with 1 GIG of RAM, memory runs out quickly (or the hard drive hammers thanks to virtual memory). So Mozilla's small memory foot print, open source and tab pages has recently taken my number one spot for web browsers. I looked at Avant (clumsy), MyIE2 (almost as good as Netcaptor) and any other browser listed in user comments. However, the Internet Explorer engine is bloated - and not as stable as I would like. The only decent alternative broweser engine to Internet Explorer is Mozilla.

I am not a fan of bloat - nor do I like counter-productive user interfaces. My recommendation is Media Player Classic. It's under a megabyte, can be used with mouse and keyboard - intuitively - (ie. in a standard manner to 99% of other windows applications) and comes bundled with just about every other codec you can imagine. If you want a pretty interface - then stick with Microsoft Media Player.
