  1. Review - Messenger Plus! Live

    2.0 (Jan 9, 2003)

Actually I just checked the .net status page and apparently they're having problems. Apologies for the inaccurate review.

  2. Review - RealPlayer for Windows

    6.0.10.446 Beta (Feb 8, 2002)

3rd patch of the day... hehe... I think we're on a war of stamina here - who gives up first? Let it be AOL!!
These guys are amazing. That's quite some support for a free product - far better than you get for most commercial products!

Nice to have AIM working for a bit, even if it's just a couple of hours.

  3. Review - Mozilla for Windows

    0.9.8 (Feb 6, 2002)

Oh, to add to my below review... the built-in popup stopping software works wonders - stops popups you don't want, but still lets through any 'popup windows' you actually ask for. It's worth running just for that.

  4. Review - Mozilla for Linux

    0.9.1 Beta (Jun 8, 2001)

See review in "Mozilla for Windows" :) But specific to Linux, this really does seem to be a rock-solid and fast build, and definitely an improvement over 0.9. I'm still torn between the two great browsers of Linux (Mozilla and Konqueror), but this does look very promising. And if the two browsers are going to compete, even better in my opinion :)

  5. Review - Mozilla for Windows

    0.9.1 Beta (Jun 8, 2001)

This build is simply beautiful. It fixes the major gripes I had previously: It loads pages twice as fast as the previous build (which was very noticably slow); but more importantly for those of you who use Windows - you can finally run it with the -turbo command line, which makes it stay in memory and launch instantly (just like IE).
So now you have less excuses to complain, give it another try :) Although it's only a 0.0.1 difference in version numbers, don't let that fool you - it's a VAST improvement over 0.9.0.

  6. Comment - Opera Releases Rewritten Version 7

    0.9.1 Beta (Feb 1, 2003 - 8:51 PM)

The fact that it's so small and fast is good enough for me.

I'm a bit of a fan of Mozilla myself, but I'd be one of the first to admit that it's a bit excessive in the Bloat Department.

Also the mouse gestures in Opera are excellent. They seem so silly, like some old 70s "idea". But I use mouse gestures all the time now :)

  7. Comment - Windows Longhorn Alpha Leaks to the Web

    0.9.1 Beta (Nov 24, 2002 - 8:18 PM)

Go ahead and develop that OS.

The fact is, when something becomes popular, you need something *revolutionary* to beat it.

That's why Linux, as good as it may be, isn't good enough... unless it somehow revolutionizes computing, it will never come *close* to taking over from Windows. It will always be stuck as a 3% minority of users.

We are at Microsoft's mercy. Like it? Nope, neither do I. Anything we can do about it? Nope!

  8. Comment - AOL Buddies Up with ICQ

    0.9.1 Beta (Oct 30, 2002 - 7:34 PM)

I've seen this news in a few places and all mention being able to talk to ICQ contacts from AIM.

What about the other way around?

Perhaps it'll remain one-way, as like a transition period to get people to move from ICQ to AIM before they close ICQ down.

  9. Comment - AOL Releases 8.0 Beta, Omits Gecko

    0.9.1 Beta (Jun 13, 2002 - 1:08 PM)

That'll please the Mozilla bashers. I can hear them gloating already...

  10. Comment - Mozilla 1.0 Hits the Streets

    0.9.1 Beta (Jun 12, 2002 - 6:08 PM)

That explains it much better than my comment did.

Also answers a few questions / concerns that I had myself... such as why they didn't do anything about the bugs I was following (p3p, bad permissions on saved files etc) - because the branch had already started and they aren't critical bugs.

Sounds like this alpha is worth a look at...
