3.0.0 Beta 2 (Sep 15, 2002)
This is a review of 2.1.4: I have nothing but good to say about this, it is very easy to use, uses less resources than ZA. However it does causes my system to reboot if i have NetBIOS enabled (which i don't so it isn't a problem). I am using Windows 2000 SP3 with IE6 SP1. Very good firewall, grc.com shows my system as stealth so i am happy :)
1.0 Beta (Sep 13, 2002)
Excellent piece of software for all users of Outlook XP (2002). I am glad to see it is freeware unlike all the other similar types of software i have used for this purpose. Thank you very much.
4.0 Beta 6 (Sep 13, 2002)
I still think that PuTTY is better. It might not look as nice but it does everything i want it to and it can connect to my shell accounts using SSH2 and RSA, something SCRT cant do. Apparently, and this is according to the SecureCRT Help File, they cannot add this feature for some reason?!
(SP1) (Sep 9, 2002)
Does anyone know if this makes a VLE copy a retail copy? I have read reports that it does this. I am using a real MSDN VLE copy from work on my work laptop and want to know if i can install this version? I want to make a slipstream and then reinstall however i heard reports a few weeks back that it will turn a VLE copy into a retail copy. Can anyone tell me what will happen?
9.0 Beta Build 2799 (Sep 5, 2002)
Note: this is a review for the 2000 and XP versions.
It has all the new feautres that WMP8 had when it was introduced in WXP however its new UI is alot nicer. For a beta it is excellent, i can´t see many UI faults at all. The overall playback is better however it does lack in some areas. DVD is a little jumpy (video and audio). Buffering is alot faster and seaking is alot faster also (on remote content). I have only been playing with it for about 1 hour so i dont know everything about it yet, however first impressions are good, it uses alot less memory than WMP8 did (7.1 on 2000 etc.), it is more responsive and feels a lot lighter to use. It is alot clearer about Licenses etc, with a privacy screen being shown the first time you load media player (by default send data to Microsoft when there is an error is DISABLED!). All in all i will give this software 4.5 out of 10. It needs some work but for a beta it is excellent (alot better than winamp3 is now!) i would HIGHLY reccommend downloading this for all the OS it supports if you use WMP currently, it is alot better than WMP7.1/8
9.0 Beta Build 2799 (Sep 20, 2002 - 5:02 PM)
nothing is 100% anyones, everything has borrowed ideas. Someone thinks or something and someone else either steals it, buys it, or changes it so it is kind of the original idea but being approached from a different angle. If you want to start a flame war, truly Xerox Parc invented everything, well not EVERYTHING but they did invent, the GUI, the mouse, the laser printer, ethernet... shall i go on? GlobalView (a Xerox OS) is an excellent OS however it was too far ahead of its time, i work for Xerox and use GlobalView on a daily basis' (along with every other OS availble, inc. Mac's) and it has features not available in any of the other OS. It is a shame it can't run on an x86 system.
9.0 Beta Build 2799 (Sep 10, 2002 - 10:50 AM)
What do you mean "How does it work?". It is a service pack, you install it and that is it!
9.0 Beta Build 2799 (Sep 6, 2002 - 5:31 AM)
You would think it is cool but it just gets annoying when the Warez world gets a build 2 weeks before the Officel Testers do!! Also it isn't easy, you have to do alot of reporting back to Microsoft. If you don't work hard and report bugs you won't be asked again, basically you get black-listed. It isn't just getting software earlier than others because you tend to get it AFTER.
9.0 Beta Build 2799 (Aug 23, 2002 - 12:19 PM)
i agree 100%
9.0 Beta Build 2799 (Aug 23, 2002 - 4:15 AM)
it is possible to have a service pack which contains the previous service pack but be a smaller filesize. this is because all the sp does is update the files, for example say there is a problem with MAPI in Outlook this uses MAPI.DLL say a problem was fixed in sp1 and made the file 1.1mb, now say a problem was also fixed in sp2, this will mean the same file from sp1 has just been edited again. This means the code *could* be smaller if the code with the bug has been re-writen better therefore giving a smaller filesize. if this happens enough the second sp could be smaller than the first. However although this is unlikely it is still possible. Just because SP2 is not twice the size of SP1 doesnt mean it doesnt contain all of SP1 fixes. Look at Windows 2000 SP2 and SP3, roughtly the same filesize but sp3 contains all of sp2 also. I do not know why the office xp sp2 does not contain sp1 also, this is unusual for microsoft.
