  1. Review - AVG Anti-Virus Free

    7.5.519a1276 (Mar 31, 2008)

AVG Free has become nag-ware. It directs you to the website and displays bright, glossy ads for the pro version.

I could live with that -- if it wasn't for other new annoying behaviours.

e.g. after every other update, it now needs to reboot the computer to complete the update. And until you do reboot, it disables itself. So you either continue working with no AV protection, or you close everything down and reboot your computer.

Might be time to start checking out alternatives.

  2. Review - DVDFab HD Decrypter

    4.1.2.0 (Mar 25, 2008)

    This is shareware, not freeware.

It's full of cripled "features" that just launch "this feature is only available in the commercial version" messages.

If you want to call it freeware, make all of the functions available, or remove the ones that are not available.

    4.24 (Feb 15, 2007 - 6:02 PM)

Why are researchers at Penn State developing worm attacks ... ?

  7. Comment - Windows Vista 'DreamScene' Available

    4.24 (Feb 15, 2007 - 5:58 PM)

Um, yeah ... you can download this from Stardock -- you don't need Vista Ultimate.

So you pay the extra $$ for Vista Ultimate for the privilege of getting an exclusive add-on that anyone with internet access can download freely and legally? Brilliant.

  8. Comment - Sprint to Allow Child Tracking

    4.24 (Apr 14, 2006 - 3:49 AM)

And it will take about 5 minutes for any half-witted kid to figure out that they just need to lend their phone to someone who is going to be where they should be -- and about 10 minutes for some enterprising kid to start charging kids to take their mobiles to school / library / sports / etc.

  9. Comment - Netflix Wants Blockbuster Online Shut

"Get your facts straight or SHADDAP. On the other hand, why to I waste time trying to educate hopelessly ignorant people who don't know the different between business facts and personal diatribe?"

And yet you did. Why is that? No, really. Why?

Tip: to be perceived as an intellectually superior being, which you so clearly desire, do a spell check first, and don't use "SHADDAP"* and then expect people to be impressed by "diatribe."

*(It's the sort of thing an uneducated, hopelessly ignorant person would say).
