Works like a charm in Vista, which is the only place WMDC is supposed to work.
Activesync 4.5 is available and works in XP, but not Vista. Same is true of lot's of software because Vista is different.

Well, now I know why my phones quit working last night. I wonder what my chances are of recovering any of the $199 I paid in April when I renewed for another year (slim? none? like a snowball in the infernal regions?)

What's not to like? It's faster and less prone to error for two reasons -- whatever software you use to enter and transmit the reutrn will catch simple math and transcription errors, and some data entry temp hired for tax season doesn't have to reenter the data from your paper return whenit arives at the IRS service center. If there is some basic error, the return will reject, and you will know about it and be able to correct it in hours instead of weeks. On top of that, you get your refund faster.
The IRS has been pushing e-file for several years now, which is why virtually all tax prep services and software packages offer free e-file options. Don't want to buy software or pay someone to do your taxes? Check around, some tax prep firms will enter and efile your return for free (a little IRS pressure helps).
And I go to political commentary now, but I think its great somewhere in government there's an initiative that will save money.
