  1. Review - Microsoft System Center Essentials

    2007 (May 2, 2007)

What is it with Microsoft and listing their tools as "freeware" when they're not? This is a 90 day trial.

According to their site: "The evaluation edition is valid for 90 days after installation."

Oh, and there's no detail about exactly what this tool does, other than "Proactive monitoring, troubleshooting and asset tracking to keep your IT environment secure and up-to-date." Great, helpful description, MS. I don't want to download a 90 day trial to find out that this is junk... just tell me already what it is!

  2. Comment - Huge correction: More opposition to Yahoo's Yang than first tabulated

    2007 (Aug 6, 2008 - 6:58 PM)

The author Scott M. Fulton III. Does this surprise you?

  3. Comment - Windows DNS bug fix can impair firewalls, including ZoneAlarm

    2007 (Jul 9, 2008 - 7:45 PM)

"This distinction is apparently very important in the assessment of damages that may result from not implementing the fix."

As soon as I read that smartass comment, I knew who wrote the article. Scott... can you stick to the facts and not constantly throw in nonsense? You should go work for Wired. I think BetaNews is a great site but this kind of stuff is just unneccessary.

  4. Comment - Verizon Wireless, Alltel sign $28.1 billion deal

    2007 (Jun 5, 2008 - 1:25 PM)

Nor did Sprint (CDMA) buying Nextel (iden) seem logical. But it happened :)

I agree though, it's incredibly unlikely...

  5. Comment - Sneak peek at upcoming HD radios with iTunes tagging

    2007 (May 23, 2008 - 3:44 PM)

I can't believe "HD" (which is a misnomer, it's NOT high definition, it's only digital) is "taking off." It sounds just as crappy as XM and Sirius.

  6. Comment - HP floats a file backup service in the cloud

    2007 (Apr 7, 2008 - 4:56 PM)

Yah, I'd gladly do that, but then if you have 2gb or less you can do that with Mozy. I'm at about the 3gb backup size right now, so unfortunately the HP free trial wouldn't do me too much good at this point. (I'd have to stop the Mozy client and run the HP client.)
