  1. Review - AVG Anti-Virus Free

    7.5.430a828 (Nov 16, 2006)

I liked this anti virus untill I saw that it was more hype then real protection. One of my former bosses liked this AV so bad that he bought licences for more then a hundred computers, but they had virus problems ever since. There are much better alternatives to AVG free edition of which the best ones are Avast and the free version of BitDefender. AVG shame on you for pulling out the free version which made you what you are. The commertial one (both the server and workstation versions of the AV) is a poor effort. In that department Nod32, BitDefender, Avast Pro and F-Secure rule over AVG. Even resource hogs like KAV, McAfee and Norton are much better.

  2. Review - Total Commander

    7.0 Beta 1 (Nov 16, 2006)

Even though this is a beta it is excellent. It has added features, and all the old plugins, which I have tons of, work with this version. The nice added function is that you can increase the size of the icons within the 2 pannels. :) There are also other customizations, but this one I like the most. Functionality as always is excellent. Numerous other functions/capabilities can be added trough plugins. Simply the best out there.

  3. Review - nVIDIA ForceWare Drivers for Windows 2000/XP (32-bit)

    45.23 Official WHQL (Sep 14, 2003)

Nothing special. I expected more from WHQL signed drivers. They are not my choice even if everything works fine with them. Detonator XP 43.45 are the best drivers for Nvidia cards I've tried so far (at least for my PC). An average Nvidia driver which is worth downloading.

  4. Review - nVIDIA ForceWare Drivers for Windows 2000/XP (32-bit)

    43.45 Official (Apr 18, 2003)

As good as Nvidia drivers get as far as FPS is concerned. Good small package if you download the English version.

  5. Review - KaZaA Media Desktop

    2.1 (Mar 14, 2003)

This program is spyware, but it is good. I used a combination of methods to get rid of spyware and still be able to use it and it worked. There is anice little program called Diet Kaza that you install after Kazaa Media Desktop and you then can get rid of the spyware by simply deleting it with Ad-aware or some other addware removing app. Diet Kaza sort of replaces those addware files and kazaa works just fine and off you go to download some nice files.

  6. Comment - Researchers Count a Million Zombie PCs

    2.1 (Mar 19, 2005 - 2:03 AM)

What about viruses, troyans and other malware that neither AV programs nor any other recognize as such? I've had experiance with those as well. There is nothing that can guard a computer as a 1. nicely configured firewall, 2. a good antivirus app, 3. a good antiadware app and 4. a nice antispam app or as a last resort manually finding hostile apps and manually deleting them and usig HiJackThis as a tool to view malicious processes and also delete them. An updated Windows system is nice, but it is not the key to a well protected and well functioning rig. For some computers updating can be a nightmare, like those with mission critical apps instaled that do not work well, or do not work at all with newest Windows patches or service packs. The key to a well protected computer is a well configured firewall and after it everythig else (antivirus and similar). Home users need nothing better than a good software firewall like for instance Outpost. But the biggest problem is that many people (I am talking about average home users) do not care about all this nor do they want to learn to protect their PC-s from being exploited by warz hackers and sapmmers and that is a damn shame.

  7. Comment - Winamp3 Makes its Official Debut

    2.1 (Aug 21, 2002 - 9:59 PM)

There is just one thing that pisses me off i Winamp 3 at this time, (scince it's still pretty new) and that is its playback speed. The latency in sound that it displaid, when I tried it is unacceptable! Maybe guys who have soundcards like all the Creative Soundblaster and Audiogy series may not notice it, because they have analog cables connecting to the motherboard but I have an M-Audio card which has no such cables so I can only use Direct sound, which the new Winamp does support, but only in words. When a song is near the end and fade-in is enabled you will see what I am talking about. Try rewinding or fast forwarding a tune and you will see what I am talkig about. The new video support feature is poor, but scince the Nullsoft guys are new to this stuff it is OK. Abot AOL and other things I will not talk, because far too much has been said abot it in this forum that is both true and not. Winamp is just plain old mp3 player and that is all that it was and still is for me.Blah, blah, blah...
let's just wait and see how things evolve and not just bich about how Winamp is this, and Winamp is that. We all love it and let's have some faith.

  8. Comment - Winamp3 Makes its Official Debut

    2.1 (Aug 20, 2002 - 8:50 PM)

I do share your opinion, I really do but what kind of a damn ultra fast machine are you using, and how much memory. The truth is that Windows XP is a memory intensive OS, and it runs OK on machines that have processors above 1.2 GHz installed, and if you are using a PIII or older AMD processors like I am (and most of the people I know) Windows XP does not show its full potential. I have PIII, 866MHz machine with 512 SDRam memory installed and I use XP because I am a progressive fool I'd say, and I love the new interface (so easy to use). I know people who have XP installed on PII celeron processor machines, but I also know that that is far from good. I do agree with one more thing that I think you have not said, and that is: when Winanp 2.0 came it was also slugish like Winamp 3.0 now, so let's give the Nullsoft guys some time to figure some things out and let's expect the 3.0.1 version of Winamp that is sure to come, to have some improvements. Mind your thongue and...
P.S. Winamp is spyware by default + I do not believe that you have no problems with 3.0. No offence, I use Windows XP and I love winamp and have used it since its beginings but I deinstalled 3.0 because my ears and eyes do not seem to respond quite well to it yet. I got back to nice old 2.79. Wait and don't be hasty and take what ever is offered to u as Winamp. Good things take time to achieve their best.
