  1. Review - Google Chrome for Windows

    0.4.154.25 Beta (Nov 25, 2008)

It is a BetaNews recommended download and if
you did any research you woud find this...

    ctfmon.exe

When you run a Microsoft Office XP program, the file Ctfmon.exe (Ctfmon) runs in the background, even after you quit all Office programs.
Ctfmon.exe monitors the active windows and provides text input service support for speech recognition, handwriting recognition, keyboard, translation, and other alternative user input technologies.

    It is a beta.

And if you look in the bar that says Learn More you will see the following..

    ***For Windows Vista/XP SP2***

If you are a Linux user look for crossover
chrome it will install under Debian/Ubuntu

  2. Review - Desktops

    1.0 (Oct 24, 2008)

I think the winxp power toy - virtual desktop
    manager is better.

Of course Dexpot and WinSpace are much better.

  3. Review - VirtuaWin

    4.0.1 Beta 1 (Apr 15, 2008)

I think that Dexpot is the best but I use WinSpace Lt Ver 3.0. You can't get it from TriPlus but
you can Google it. They will not answer emails
for this freeware so don't bother requesting
a Serial-Number but you can use this..

    90-ws52940059-672

I think the best feature is mouse-knocking.. just move the mouse to the edge of the screen and
left click and you are in a new desktop. You can also drag and drop to other desktops.. use the map
to see how this works. The size in mem is less than 12M.

  4. Review - Xplorer²

    1.7.0.9 Beta (Jan 15, 2008)

"There are 0nly 2 reviews for 1.7.09 the rest are
"for 1.7.0.5. What is the difference for this 'new' minor version change and the older version.
I think that I may have missed the 'minor' change
    log."

Update 1/16/08 The read-me is useless but you can find the minor Visa oriented changes in a file labeled changes.txt. I gave it a 4 because Total Commander and Z-Tree got a 5. Note.. Z-Tree
is for the more advanced PC user.

  5. Review - Damn Small Linux

    2 gig USB key drive.

Or you can go here for instructions...

  6. Comment - Apple refreshes its iMac line

    4.0 (Apr 29, 2008 - 5:43 AM)

The reason you are running Windows is due to MS
marketing practicing. The One Laptop Per Child group indicated they would use linux due to the price (free). MS immediately came out with an offer of 1,000,000 licenses at $3.00 a pop. The average consumer believes that there is free choice of operating systems but don't realize the same sort of deals are presented to every computer manufacturer on the planet. Get the picture?? They are contractually locked in to
Windows.. the next time you go to a retailer ask them how many copies of Vista are sold over the counter. One of the reasons support will be
withdrawn is that they want force every Windows
user, software designer and equipment manufacturer to be locked in to MS. This time it didn't work as the product is crap. Apple does the same thing but they have a tougher row to hoe. Now look at a dell PC with Linux and wonder why it costs the same or more than a box with Vista and then think what Linux would look like if it had billions in development money thrown at it. The business methods of both
MS and Apple are exactly the same as those used
    by the mafia.

Bill Gates and Steve Jobs please don't break my
legs or run over my children for having an opinion.

  7. Comment - Newest Safari browsers find themselves shooting gallery targets

    4.0 (Mar 29, 2008 - 6:53 AM)

    1. If you want to look at Safari 3.1 download Safari 3.1. There is no need to download the entire site.

    2. Probably immaterial but MS was a sponsor of the event and apple was not.

    3. The event was designed to test the hack-ability of machines not 3d party
    application vulnerabilities. (Think Java)

Secunia resuls so far this year..
    Firefox 2.0.xx 22 with 4 not fixed
Safari 3.1 1 with one unfixed
    IE 7.xx 23 with 8 unfixed.

Most would consider this a Java exploit and not
a Safari exploit. I tried Safari and would rate
it comparable and maybe better then the other
    apps listed.

  8. Comment - Apple pushing iTunes, QT users on Windows to download Safari

    4.0 (Mar 23, 2008 - 5:42 AM)

    Smaller footprint when loaded.
Smaller footprint when a folder with 31 URL's is
    opened.
    Noticeably faster.
    Slicker interface.
However I like Firefox (3.0b4)it has more promise. The biggest pain the a** is the lack of extension that will work with this version.
BTW you should try both before commenting.

  9. Comment - Asus' Eee Linux PC to become Windows machine

    4.0 (Mar 15, 2008 - 6:53 AM)

"Linux doesn't have a decent desktop OS and it never will. I've got a stack of linux cds that I purchased including: RedHat, Mandriva, SUSE, Kubuntu, and Xandros. I can use them as coasters, but that's about it. My use of linux goes back to 1998. Promises cost nothing."

Apparently you are stuck in time (1998)as almost all distros are free at distrowatch. There must be 80 or 90 at this time. I personally use a dualboot (Wubi)WinXP SP2/
Unbuntu on my laptop and I would say WinXP is totally unsuitable for a 16Gig machine. I would
wipe it and install Puppy/Slax or DSL. I would never pay the vig for a Win OS on a geek toy like this.

BTW MS is ready to sell 1,000,000 licenses to the OLPC project at $3.00 a pop thats $3.00 more than any linux distro.

  10. Comment - AOL Heads in New Direction with 'Helix'

    4.0 (Jul 28, 2007 - 9:35 AM)

Most of the AOL features are available at AOL.com
and as a portal it's light years ahead of Yahoo,
MSN and Netscape. Up to 1995 it was a BBS and not an ISP but that's a minor complaint as Windows did not have a browser until 1995 but in my opinion it's hard to figure out who did more to destroy the internet.
For a company that's trying to s*** can dial-up and even BYOA it's amazing that they still have
12,000,000 paying at least $9.95 a month. It's a wonder that Bill Gates the financial wizard
didn't buy it when it was up for grabs instead of pouring billions into that financial disaster MSN.. but wait a minute he's the same guy when asked in the 90's about the internet replied that he didn't see anyway to make money
    out of it.
PS.. if you know a subscriber and can borrow a login and password you can receive over 70 XM channels for free with an unlimitted amount of space for an inbox but those that use AOL.com
can still get 2 gig with as many acounts as
    they want.
