They could arguably (theoretically?) drop activex support. The .NET CLR is becoming more mature and would be the best way to deliver content / functionailty within the ie browser. Security with .NET applets is easier to maintain than with activex controls.
I love these frivolous browser debates...

From what I get from your response you are not a software developer ( or at least a windows developer ). Microsoft continues to push it new .NET development strategy. Just check out the MSDN website for yourself. Also check out dice and monster I think you will find there are many new jobs in the .NET arena. This will only continue to grow.

That just not true. What about applications in the 3D medical industry? These data these applications work on are begining to become gigbytes in size. In order to visualize them fast, they need to be loaded in memory.
