Some of us really do care. For one, as much as i love my Treo 700P, its as stable as Windows ME with less than 50 megs of HD space.
I can predictably crash it, without trying a few times a week. Don't get me wrong, i love it for the feature set, but i despise its inherent instability.
I am more of a geek so while i would buy it on day 1 for its stability i also know, just like the zaurus (which is the best PDA i've ever owned, and i have had everything) that i will have an incredible amount of software to chose from. If they are doing this in-house and do not create a open package management system like the zaurus had, i might very hesitantly still buy it just for the increased stability, BUT as soon as someone does ship a real open linux smartphone ill replace whatever i have with that.
Hell i might even try the iPhone if its has the smartphone features i need. I will never buy another palmOS or windows device again though. Once your used to more, its hard to accept less.
I would like to think i am open minded. But to me open source really means open options.
