0.47pre3 Beta (Sep 29, 2009)
@ dhry:
What do you mean when you say the following:
The last chuckle I got was from the "about" screen, where the list of software authors is not only twice as long as that in Photoshop's startup dialog, but only about three of the names don't risk your tongue turning into a pretzel if you were to attempt to pronounce them.
Is it that you have some sort of problem with software developers who don't have a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant [WASP] surname? Do you think foreigners write inferior software? Unless you provide an adequate answer to these questions I shall be asking Fileforum to consider withdrawing this review of yours as a veiled racist attack on the software developers. And no, I'm not some politically-correct loon. Just someone who takes issue with people who aren't brave enough to state their prejudices in plain English.
10.10 Build 1729 Beta (Aug 23, 2009)
Just downloaded the beta to try the new 10 version for the first time - well, what more can I say! The native skin is vastly improved; the option to position the Tab bar left or right very welcome, the option to have up to 25 pages on the Speed Dial fantastic. Start-up speed and browsing speed are what you would expect of Opera. A brilliant, brilliant browser, without rival in appearance, performance, ease of use, security, and native feature set. Right-click context menus chock-full of extras; the ability to create your own search boxes and put them on your Personal bar; duplicate tabs, and many many extras, nearly all of which Opera implemented years ago. The only browser I find a joy to use, and all without the need for "plug-ins".
I can only surmise that those regulars who come here to attack Opera have some ulterior motive for doing so. I honestly can't imagine a single good reason for launching such vituperative attacks over and over again on this browser. I first bought Opera in 2004, when you had to pay for the full version (without ads), and I would gladly do the same today if they charged for it. It's quite simply that good. People who are wiling to explore its riches will find this out themselves, and should not be put off by the irrational criticism of those who come here on a daily basis just to attack Opera.
10.0 Build 1651 Beta (Jul 21, 2009)
Regarding multiple home pages:
Opera goes one better. Save multiple sports-related pages to one session; multiple news related tabs to another; and multiple tech related tabs to a third. Set Opera to show the Start-up dialog when it starts and hey presto, multiple sessions. Take your pick.
Something Opera has had for as long as I can remember.
Now tell me: how long was it before Mozilla and MS figured this out? Or perhaps they haven't figured it out yet; it's been so long since I used their memory-hogging bloated garbage I just don't know.
3.16 (Feb 24, 2009)
very nice file manager - can't believe it hasn't been reviewed yet. Would like to see some easy access buttons in dual-pane mode for quick file copying, directory synchronization, and so on, but otherwise good work
2.4 (Jul 12, 2008)
Just wrote a review of the PRO version but mistakenly included it under the freeware version. Highly recommended organiser - for me at least the Pro version is essential, because it includes cross-referencing of tasks, contacts etc. Read my review filed under the freeware version for details.
