Actually, I am suprised that the UX expert was complaining how this is unfair in favor of Apple. I think MS did a very good job of taking the next best stance for themselves after the EU rejected their first proposal.
Yes, most of the world reads from left to right and that first spot is typically advantageous but consider that this isn't a text heavy page on the top half where you select your browser. When looking at a graphic heavy page you tend to focus on the middle as that is where the most important elements are normally placed. Think of a photograph or a web page even.
Now look at the dead center of the top line of browsers (before scrolling) and what do you see? Oh wow! It's IE!
Can't wait for Mozilla to change the logo they use on the selection page to a fox with a fireburst around it to draw your eye to it. Or maybe Google will change the Chrome logo so it blinks or something... What a joke this whole thing is.

The DVI to HD recorder being blocked is the MPAA not MS.
Your entire post is unsubstantiated and petty.
Use the one power that you have in a capatilistic society and don't buy it if you don't like it. Since you claim to have these issues yourself you must have spent money on an OS that you tell us the root of all evil.
Many of the complaints of Vista are due to old hardware and more specificly hardware vendors not writing drivers for it. This is not a failure of MS but one of all the hardware vendors who have taken your money 3-5 years ago and decided that they no longer want to spend any money on making it work with anything new.

Cannonfodder,
I think you are missing the point a bit. Firstly it says in the article that there is no DRM. Secondly, of course it will be a reduced quality version. It is intended for portable devices such as Zunes and iPods. Yes, I said iPods! If the file has no DRM then there is nothing stopping you from converting it to a different format after you have copied it to the PC.
Terminalx,
As the article says there is no DRM so there should be no license and therefore no information sent. A quick test would be to disconnect your internet connection and see if it will unlock. I suspect it will based on the information in the article.
There is nothing really stopping warez groups from sending the WMV file around the internet after it has been unlocked but as the past has shown, if they really want to pirate it they can anyway. This simply allows normal people to easily be able to take a movie they purchased and watch it on a Zune or similar with little to no knowledge on how it is done.

NULLedge,
Larger drives in consoles is for the hope that Sony and MS, and even Nintendo have that you will purchase content directly from them and store it on your console.
Nintendo is doing this with virtual console games while MS and Sony are doing it with expansion for existing games and HD movies.
If they are to grow this new revenue stream then larger drives are imperative as you purchase more content but refuse to delete what you have rightly paid for (and why should you. you paid for it)

Steve,
Thank you for the link. My understanding then is that not only have they removed the Emotion Engine but perhaps also the Graphics Synthesizer as well now. If this is the path they desire to take in order to reduce cost then they should consider emulating the GS as well. It would certainly take some effort but how many people who get a 40gb unit for christmas and plop in an old game are going to call Sony asking why it doesn't work?
I don't know if the article was edited or if you are replying to my post but neither the article nor my post ever states that BC will be completely removed in the future. I even mention that I think the reason that it is removed is to get good PR for a lower price point but force people to actually buy the more expensive PS3 with BC (if that is something you are looking for)
