  1. Review - AudioMagic

    3.1.7 (Sep 1, 2008)

I tried this today. Poor website with broken links. Documentation? Skip.

Update: this is not the version I tried (latest is 3.5). Web site seems ok now. Looks better.

  2. Review - UltraVNC

    1.0.5 (Sep 1, 2008)

This is an outstanding tool with by far the best performance of any comparable tool (VNC, RealVNC, TightVNC etc.). In my experience it either works or doesn't depending on the graphics performance/support, but if it works there's nothing to touch it. I'm curious to know why anyone would prefer RealVNC -- unless using Adder hardware.

  3. Review - SyncBackSE

    5.0.1.0 (Aug 28, 2008)

Super program. This belongs on the hard drive of any sync freak. I use it along with Beyond Compare (www.scootersoftware.com) and Superflexible (www.superflexible.com), plus... Robocopy. For incredibly flexible syncing Superflexible is the business. For visual verification and inspection BC is the cat's miaow. For routine use and the ability to share a free version with friends who haven't learn to sync yet SyncBackSE is a good way to go.

  4. Review - Logitech SetPoint (32-bit)

    4.40 (Feb 3, 2008)

Do NOT install this software. First, it's buggy. Second, it's not obvious how it can be removed. It doesn't show up in the Control Panel nor is a program group created with an uninstall option. Logitech should be flogged for this.

Update: the software has updated. Reinstalling and agreeing to download an update from Logitech seems to fix it.

  5. Review - Skype for Windows

    3.1.0.144 (Mar 14, 2007)

Agreed. Skype is all washed up. I have switched to SIP telephony. It's still a bit like email in the early 90s with walled gardens here and there however. Check out voxalot.com for a way of pulling several services together nicely. Get a number from ipkall.com and a copy of X-Lite for a software phone and FORGET SKYPE! Or rather... forget about giving Skype any money!

  6. Comment - An ad about nothing: First Seinfeld + Gates ad omitted Vista

    3.1.0.144 (Sep 9, 2008 - 6:18 AM)

A stupid 8 minute review of a 2 minute commercial? This was poor in every way. Stopped it at 92 seconds. Next time plan in advance what you're going to say and try not to look too creepy (get some advice and make sure to rehearse). Verdict: Video diarrhea.
