And to make matters worse, Microsoft opened it all up a couple of days ago...

How about a service like Dijjer? Are they at all open to liability for copyright infringement even though the original content can be traced back to the source. It's a pretty neat concept and the ease of use and trackability seems to be a neat benefit:
www.dijjer.com
and I posted about it here:

The original content would be hosted on my website and then shared after that. Does that successfully defer liability to me as the owner of the website?
Thanks,

When will HP/Dell/PC Vendor Whoever wakeup and give all these kids new Tablet PC's running Windows Tablet. That would go a long way to ensuring adoption in the near future... esp. giving them to students in 8th+ grade. This is why Apple hangs on in the laptop/desktop market even though they churn out an inferior proprietary product.

What not just go ahead and burn them to flash or to your usb dongle... Am I mistaken or wasn't there another large retailer - I am thinking Target - that tried this very business model (cd's not flash) - and failed?
I think that Wal-Mart is trying to cut their pricepoints from $12ish/cd down to $nish/song and thereby increase overall volume... Wouldn't it just be as beneficial for them to allow a bring your own media and save a buck?

This seems like one of those things that is well suited for an open specification - not tightly integrated into Longhorn or requiring any proprietary applications to create.

Microsoft hopes to promote adoption of Metro by pushing its use of open standards. The company will provide a set of application programming interfaces (APIs) for developers that wish to incorporate Metro technologies into their applications. Microsoft will also offer a royalty-free license for Metro.
